(TQM)

W.R.T. TO NUTAN MUMBAI TIFFINBOX

1. Introduction

An audit is an examination and verification of company’s financial,

accounting records and supporting documents by professionals.

Quality audit is “ Periodic, independent and documented examination

and verification of activities, records, processes and other element of

quality system to determine their conformity with the requirements of

a quality standard such as ISO 9000.

Audit should be planned on a regular basis so that each activity is

audited at least once in the audit cycle. High risk areas should be

audited more often to ensure conformance. An audit can also be

carried out if a particular problem has arisen, to establish the source of

the problem and document any corrective actions.

A quality audit is an independent evaluation, inspection or review

of a project’s quality assurance system to improve quality

performance of a project”.

Total Quality Management is a management strategy aimed at

embedding awareness of quality in all organizational processes.

Total Quality Management is a management approach that originated

in 1950’s and has become more popular since early 1980’s. Total

Quality is a description of the culture, attitude and organization of a

company that strives to provide customers with product and services

that satisfy their needs. The culture requires quality in all aspects of

the company’s operations, with processes being done right the first

time and defects and waste eradicated from operations.

Total Quality Management (TQM) is a method by which management

and employees can become involved in the continuous improvement

of the production of goods and services. It is a combination of quality

and management tools aimed at increasing business and reducing

losses due to wasteful practices. TQM has been widely used in

manufacturing, education, government and service industries as well

as NASA space and science programs. Some of the companies who

have implemented TQM include Ford Motors, Phillips, Motorola,

Toyota Motor, Wipro etc.

Quality can be viewed from multiple perspectives: attribute of the

product, customer satisfaction, conformity with manufacturing

specifications and value (relation of quality and price).
