Senior Defense

Argumentative Essay

The title of my argumentative assignment is called Technology. It is a topic that can be

debated between two different sides. This assignment was completed in my 12th grade edgenuity

class, on February 4th, 2019. I dedicated myself to completing it because it was required in

order to move forward with the class. I was asked to choose whether I believe technology brings

us together or not. After I chose a side I was asked to type an essay arguing why I chose my

viewpoint. My assignment is an argumentative piece because I had to convince readers why my

proposition was the right one. I expressed my point of view on the topic.

The Student Learning Outcome I met in completing this assignment was critical thinker.

This benefitted me as it pushed my thinking to a higher level. I was a critical thinker because I

analyzed a couple of reliable sources before I chose what I was going to write. The sources were

included. In my assignment I also included a rebuttal, a way to weaken the claim of the opposing

side. Finally, I included a plan on how I can continue to convince readers.

The assignment definitely helped me work on the student learning outcome. It helped by

pushing my mind to think way more critically, I had to think of reasons to persuade others to

share my view. Although I have met the SLO for my argumentative piece, I still need to improve

on how evaluate any information gathered from critical thinking. I have the skill to brainstorm

and outline multiple ideas, but I must be effective on transferring them to given assignments. The
skill can be used when I enter college. It is crucial for creating a college essay, which would lead

to having excellent grades in my classes. l can also apply it to creating powerpoints, documents,

and even organizing events.
