Report about Cometsa and Mr.

Sam Tsima
Cometsa is a development organization that aims at 360 degree of the African
Territory – in terms of eradication of poverty and illiteracy, employment generation,
youth empowerment, educational reforms, promotion of local art culture and music,
environmental conservation, sports and health, local industries, infrastructure,
science and technology.

Sam Tsima’s brainchild, this company works on the RELEASE principle – Recreation,
Entertainment, Leisure, Education, Arts, Sports, Environment. Cometsa has
expanded into several enterprises, each handling some developmental aspect.
Currently, the development agencies under Cometsa include Cometsa Development
Agencies Consolidated (CDA Consolidated), CDA Central Admin, Cometsa Friends
and Suporters Club, Sports Development Agency, Mafrika, Capacity Development.

Cometsa’s initiatives as far as Arts and Entertainment are concerned focus around
the promotion of local music. Through the Mafrika Music Enterprise, they aim to
encourage all forms of music- traditional tribal music of the natives to upcoming
musicians practicing contemporary styles. It provides the African music population
with several facilities that enable music production and promotion with a more
professional, streamlined approach.

On LinkedIn, Cometsa’s Chairman & Founder – Mr. Sam Tsima shows frequent,
relevant activity – in the form of tweets, articles, blogs or updates. Cometsa has a
group for each enterprise/development, which seems to be a good idea, as LinkedIn
is the best way to bring together like-minded individuals, or businesses with
aligning, parallel goals.

What M2D can learn and imbibe from this initiative?


The best idea for Music2Deal would be to use LinkedIn on a project-to-project basis
as opposed to a daily basis like FB/Twitter. Also, while PR/promotions to a larger
group of people are best achieved through FB/Twitter, LinkedIn can be of immense
use while finding project partners in various parts of the world.

So for a project like the PLAY@POPKOMM Contest, we would need blitzkrieg


publicity on FB/Twitter/Press, but if we were to develop a new initiative that focused
on technology, or a new business model and we needed to acquire a partner in a
certain territory or acquire representatives from a certain market, LinkedIn would be
the best place.

Also, seeking collaboration/association on LinkedIn demands certain credibility, so


the idea would be for every M2D member on LinkedIn to have a well-maintained
profile, with recommendations. Also, joining business-specific groups and
participating in discussions with meaningful, relevant content that add value to the
discussion is a great way to establish credibility, get yourself/your company noticed
by others in the business and drive business enquiries/opportunites.
Immediate Plan of Action for LinkedIn:
The objective is to connect with as many music professionals from Australia, so as
to establishsome connect even before we begin operations there.

This will happen as follows:

1.) Establishing a relationship with music industry


professionals from Australia:
a) People from Australia-specific groups on LinkedIn

b) People who request to be connected to us on LinkedIn

c) People we meet on discussion boards and so on..

d) This will also include any Australian professionals that we knoe from other
SNS’s – FB/Twitter/Myspace

2) Compiling a database of contacts:


All contacts obtained on LinkedIn get added to a database, which will help us in
our AU operations.

LinkedIn Contacts will be of great use in helping us find partners, artistes, recording
labels and also music events that we can associate ourselves us with.

This requires us to have a M2D Australia profile on LinkedIn, and send connection
requests to people we already know from AU – e.g. Hellmut Wolf of SavvyMuzik,
Angela Sunley of QMusic and so on
