Why Progressive Classroom Setup Should Replace Traditional Setup.

Standardization is ingrained into school systems across America. Classrooms generally

look the same and stay the same from school to school in terms of curriculum and rules. Students

walk into a class that has rows of seats and are treated as numbers and statistics rather than people.

They only temporarily learn what they need for the test and hardly take anything else away from a

day’s lesson. Classes are oriented around the teacher rather than the student themselves, which

creates a feeling of inferiority for the student. Now, why do parents send their children to school?

Obviously, it is law that they must go, but what is the motivation? They want their children go to

college and be successful. It almost seems like actually learning any of the material is an added

benefit that few receive. It’s not about the actual schooling, it is the paycheck they get for having a

high school diploma. This idea is carried on through standardization of most schools, tests and

classroom setup. However, if classrooms were set up a little differently, maybe the students would

come out with flying colors, a variety of knowledge, and a passion for pursuing more education

(and maybe get better scores on all those standardized tests). Although traditional classrooms

ensure equality of education given, progressive classrooms help students to obtain information,

understand topics, and enjoy school.

The term “progressive classroom” can strike fear into any teacher. Why? Because it sounds

like you would need to entirely redo your classroom schedule and how you teach. This, however,
