A Lesson Design in Science IV

I. Intended Learning Outcomes

Through varied learning activities, the Grade Four students with at least 75% accuracy
must have:
a. differentiated the different types of contact forces;
b.
c. demonstrated how the different contact forces work.

II. Learning Content

Topic: Different Types of Forces
Learning Materials: realias, activity sheet
Learning References: The New Science Links 4 by Rolando L. Delos Reyes et. al, pages 231-234
Science Journey 4 by Lerma M. Dimaandal et. al, pages

III. Learning Procedures

A. Stimulating Activity
The teacher calls the students who are sitting on the chairs which have papers at the back.
Then, she lets the students arrange the papers to form a quotation.
THE JOURNEY OF A THOUSAND MILES BEGINS WITH A SINGLE STEP
After forming the saying, she asks the following questions:
a. What did you do with the words to form the quotation?
b. How do you move the chairs to arrange the words in forming the quotation?
c. How do you call that push and pull of the object which makes it move from one place to
another?

B. Actual Activity
The class is divided into 4 groups. Each group stays in a station where there are
objects to be manipulated. Then, each member of the group is given an activity sheet with the
guide questions. When the teacher rings the bell, each group proceeds to another station until
they reach the last one. They are given 3 minutes in each station.

After the activity, the teacher asks some questions for each station:
Station 1:
a. How did you make the b cart move?
b. Why do you think the cart move as you push/pull it?
c. How is the force being transferred?
d. What do you call that kind of force which is being transferred from one person to another?
Station 2:
a. As you try to drop the eraser, why it didn’t reach the ground?
b. How did the table support the eraser from not letting it fall?
c. How do you call that that force which exerts upon an object that is in contact with another
stable object?
Station 3:
a. What happens as each side of the rope is being pulled?
b. How did the two students stretched the rope?
c. Where do you think the forces executed by the students passed through?
d. How do you call that force which passes through strings, cables, ropes, or wires when they are
being pulled in opposite directions?
Station 4:
a. What happens to the movement of the toy car as it moves along the plane? Slows down
b. How did the surface of the plane influence the movement of the toy car? by exerting a force
c. Why do you think did the toy car slows down? because of the contact between the tires and the
surface
d. What do you call that force that is responsible in slowing down objects that is in motion as lon
as it is in contact?

C. Follow-up Activity

The teacher posts pictures on the board. Then, she calls some students to classify the
pictures posted into the types of contact forces.
