SOLOLA:
The Department of Sololá is located in Region VI or South Western Region, its
departmental capital is Sololá, it is 2,113.50 meters above sea level and at a distance
of 140 kilometers from the Capital City of Guatemala. It has a territorial extension of
1,061 square kilometers, with the following departmental limits: North with
Totonicapán and Quiché, South with Suchitepéquez, East with Chimaltenango; and
to the West Suchitepéquez and Quetzaltenango. It is located at latitude 14 ° 46'26
"and longitude 91 ° 11'15". Its rainfall is 2895.9 mm., With a generally cold climate,
although the department has a variety of climates due to its topography, so that its
soil is naturally fertile, unbeatable for all kinds of crops.

La feria titular se celebra en la cabecera de Sololá el día 15 de agosto, y se
celebra la fiesta que llaman Nim Akij Sololá, que significa Día Grande de Sololá.

In this department there is a deeply rooted religious syncretism, for they revere
both Jesus Christ and all the saints of the Catholic Church and the God World, the
Owner of the Hill, the Spirits of the ancestors, etc. The Catholic Church is presided
over by bishops and priests, and the ancestral religion by the Xamans or as the
Mayan priests are currently called.
