DESCRIPTION OF ELEMENTS
Power Distribution Circuit: Description

ƒ The mains power input signal (3-phases + neutral + ground) is distributed

between the two basic racks of the MSSR Mode S Rack as a mono-phase
power signal, through the PRC Unit.
ƒ One mono-phase power signal is used to supply power to channel 1
devices placed inside left frame, which are the following:
• TFU1, TPS1, MEX1, MVEX1, SWITCH1 and NTP1.
ƒ The second mono-phase power signal could be used to supply power to
particular devices placed inside any frame of rack, if they were included in
radar system.
ƒ This same signal also supplies power to the front auxiliary socket strips.

test instruments.

Date: 30/03/2009
ƒ The third mono-phase power signal is used to supply power to channel 2
devices places inside right frame, which are the following:

MSSR MODE-S RACK (DOUBLE FRAME)

DESCRIPTION OF ELEMENTS
Power Relay Control (PRC) Unit: Description

ƒ It is mainly used:
• To distribute the mains power signal (3-phases) between the two frames of the
MSSR Mode S Rack.
• To route the DC voltage and control signals to the RF Switch unit.
ƒ It has a front panel, which contains the following elements:
• Three Power Switches, which are called as: A, B and C.
• One Timing Counter, which is used to indicate the number of hours the system
is powered on.
• One Control Key, which is used to control antenna rotation.
ƒ Each one of the three Power Switches is associated to one phase of the

Doc. Nº: 0011810000800MA02

input mains power signal, which is distributed of the following way:

Edition: 3 Revision: 0
• A Power Switch: provides a mono-phase power signal to the channel 1

devices placed inside left frame.
• B Power Switch: provides a mono-phase power signal to the particular
subsystem devices placed inside any frame of rack and to the front socket
strips of rack frames. 17
MSSR MODE-S RACK (DOUBLE FRAME)

DESCRIPTION OF ELEMENTS
Power Relay Control (PRC) Unit: Front Panel

• C Power Switch: provides a mono-phase power signal to channel 2 devices

placed in the right frame.
ƒ Each power switch has two associated LED diodes:
• Left LED indicates that the corresponding
mono-phase signal is present at its input.

• Right LED indicates that the switch is

activated and the power signal is at its
output.

ƒ The Control Key has associated one LED diode, which indicates the

antenna is rotating when ON.

Edition: 3 Revision: 0
ƒ This key generates a control signal, which is sent to the

Antenna Drive System through one connector of the
MSSR Mode S rack rear panel (PAN).

19
MSSR MODE-S RACK (DOUBLE FRAME)

DESCRIPTION OF ELEMENTS
Radio Frequency Switch (RRF) Device

ƒ It is used to connect the three RF (Sum, Omni & Difference) channels of

the interrogation channel in Main state to the antenna, and the
corresponding of the other interrogation channel (the one in stand
by/maintenance) to 50 Ω loads.
ƒ It has four interconnection ports. Each port contains three connectors in
order to connect the three used RF channels (Sum, Omni & Difference).
ƒ These ports are internally connected in pairs, staying in one set position
while the PRC Unit doesn’t active the control signal that produces the
commutation.
