Reflection

The first-day presentation topics on Who Lives and Who Dies unfolded a number of aspers in

the healthcare industry for me. With immense globalization and competitiveness, it is quite

evident that the effectiveness and efficiency of the healthcare industry have grown manifold.

But, this is a long and cumbersome journey over the years seeking consistent efforts of a

number of clinicians, doctors, healthcare professionals, etc. who have helped to transform the

definition of health care into a more refined one. I can now understand the audacity,

foresightedness, and efficiency of the big professionals with an appropriate vision and the

zeal to transform the healthcare services which has eventually helped to come a long way

further.

When it comes to health care, the patients are often very scared and skeptical about what is

going to happen next. At this point in time, it is the doctors and other Healthcare experts who

are blindly trusted for the best results. Typically, about some decades back, the patients

actually had no options or rather fewer options to become a rational consumer of healthcare

services with lesser consumer satisfaction. As time passed by, healthcare institutions have

become very professional and transparent so as to provide the best services to their clients,

patients and the relatives. Greater automation and dedicated services have raised the

standards of the healthcare industry to a much higher one.

A good healthcare decision needs a number of efforts and rational thinking for which patients

generally fail. Now in case there is a medical emergency in the family and a national health

good decision needs to be taken, the healthcare consumer will have a number of options to

look upon, evaluate and then choose. It is quite evident that the customers are the king of the

market and hear the patients and their families would be the king in the healthcare industry.

They have full right to make a good healthcare decision after evaluating the pros and cons of
each healthcare institution or a healthcare professional so as to get the maximum at a

particular situation.

Taking some of the important points of the mindset and evolution of Jefferson Health’s CEO,

Stephen Klasko’s TEDx, one can easily connect the gradual advancement in the healthcare

industry from the yesteryears till the 2020’s. From the initial hitch of the doctors' minds to

the great audacity of experimenting today with a motive to move forwards and render the best

quality services to the patients, the later has come to a remarkable position to actually

differentiate between the mediocre and the best ones.

With increased transparency prevailing in the healthcare industry and others, and all the

treatment details, medicines given, right given to the patients to take as many opinions about

his/her treatment, things have actually changed for good. The patients again now can

compare the prices which are best suitable to them according to the budget so as to

confidently opt for a treatment as and when required.

I also feel that healthcare industry these days have become as much competitive and efficient

as any other industry with maximum entrepreneurial and business skills imbibed with an

effort to gather the best team of professionals for the best results. With patients being the king

of the market and the healthcare institutions striving to excel with each passing day, the

patients now need to realize the increasing gravity of the same and use it in the best possible

manner.

Overall, the idea of who lives and who dies and connecting the same to the prevailing

competitiveness of today with greater effectiveness and efficiency, the patients to a large
extent reserve the right to live or die with their own freedom to choose and opt for the best.

The techniques and services are there, one just needs to capitalize on the right choice!
