1. Find the slope, the x-intercept and y-intercept if the line given the equation -3x + 5y = 8.
Solution:
*To find the slope of the given -3x + 5y =8, first write in slope intercept form:
-3x + 5y =8 => 5y = 3x + 8
y = (3/5)x + 8/5
Therefore; the slope is equal to 3/5.
*The y-intercept is found by setting x = 0 in the equation and solve for y:
y = (3/5)x + 8/5
y = 0 + 8/5
y = 8/5
*The x-intercept is found by setting y= 0 in the equation and solve for x:
y = (3/5)x + 8/5
0 = (3/5)x + 8/5
(3/5)x = -8/5
x = -8/3
2. Given the parabola y = 3x2 + 12x – 1, determine each of the following :

A.) In what direction does the parabola open?

B.) What is the vertex?
C.) What is the y-intercept?
Solution:
A.) To find the direction of the opening of the parabola, all you need to do is to look at the
coefficient of the x2 term, that’s gonna be you’re a value:
a = 3 which is greater than 0, it means it’s opens upwards

B.) y = 3x2 + 12x – 1

*completing the square
y = 3(x2 + 4x +4) – 1 -12
y = 3 (x +2)2 – 13
a=3 h = -2 k = -13
Therefore: vertex = (-2 , -13)

C.) To get the y-intercept, let say x = 0:

y = 3x2 + 12x -1
y = 3(0)2 + 12 (0) – 1
y = -1

3. Find the equation of the circle which circumscribes the triangle formed by the line: 2x + y - 3
= 0 , x + y – 1 = 0 and 3x + 2y -5 = 0.
Solution:
L1 => 2x + y -3 = 0 L1L2 => (2 , -1)
L2 => x + y -1 = 0 L2L3 => (3 , -2)
L3 => 3x +2y -5 = 0 L3L1 => (1 , 1)
*L1 – L2
2x + y = 3 Substitute the value of x in L1:
- x+y=1 2(2) + y – 3 = 0
x=2 y = -1
*L3 – 2L2
3x + 2y - 5 = 0 Substitute the value of x in L2:
- 2x + 2y - 2 = 0 3+y–1=0
x=3 y = -2
*L3 – 2L1
3x + 2y – 5 = 0 Substitute the value of x in L1:
- 4x + 2y – 6 = 0 2(1) + y -3 = 0
-x = -1 y=1
x=1

A (2 , -1)
B (3 , -2)
C (1 , 1)
x2 + y2 + 2gx + 2fy + c = 0
A => (2)2 + (-1)2 + 2(g)(2) + 2(f)(-1) + c = 0
4 + 1 + 4g - 2f + c = 0
5 + 4g – 2f + c = 0
B => (3)2 + (-2)2 + 2 (g)(3) + 2(f)(-2) + c = 0
9 + 4 + 6g - 4f + c = 0
13 + 6g – 4f + c = 0
C => (1)2 + (1)2 + 2(g)(1) + 2(f)(1) + c = 0
1 + 1 + 2g +2f + c = 0
2 + 2g +2f + c = 0

*A – C:
5 + 4g – 2f + c = 0
- 2 + 2g + 2f + c = 0
3 + 2g – 4f = 0 -----> eq. 1

*B – C:
13 + 6g - 4f + c = 0
- 2 + 2g + 2f + c = 0
11 + 4g – 6f = 0 -----> eq. 2

*To get the value of f; subtract eq. 2 to eq. 1 :

(multiply eq. 1 by 2 to eliminate the g)
(3 + 2g – 4f = 0) 2
6 + 4g – 8f = 0
- 11 + 4g – 6f = 0
-5 – 2f = 0
-2f = 5
f = -5/2
Substitute the value of f to eq. 1:
3 + 2g – 4f = 0
3 + 2g – 4(-5/2) = 0
g = -13/2
Substitute the value of f and g to A/B/C:
(A) 5 + 4g – 2f + c = 0
5 + 4(-13/2) – 2(-5/2) + c = 0
c = 16
Therefore; the equation is :
x2 + y2 – 13x -5y + 16 = 0

1. A square has area 25 cm2. The side of this square is equal to the diameter of the circle, as
shown. What is the circumference of the circle?

Solution:
The area of the square is A=S2 so;
A=25 ; A=S2
S = √25cm2 = 5cm
From the problem the side of the square is equal to the diameter of the circle so;
S = D = 5cm

The circumference of the circle is equal to;

2𝜋R ; R = D/2
C = 2𝜋(5/2)
C = 15.70 cm
