To Whom It May Concern:

It is my pleasure to write this letter of recommendation on behalf of Fernanda Azevedo, who I know from
instrumental methods, conducting, and brass instrument courses that I teach at James Madison University and from
her work with the Harrisonburg New Horizons Band, which I direct. Nanda has distinguished herself through her
academic excellence, musical accomplishments, and teaching acumen. She is an excellent candidate for a teaching
position, reflecting qualities of the finest pre-service teachers.

Nanda demonstrates effective practical skills in the classroom and noteworthy abilities to plan and assess substantive
objectives and lessons for students. Her success in her student teaching experiences attest to her preparation and
have allowed her to continue to refine her pedagogical skills. She has sought numerous opportunities to engage in
teaching, including area band programs, private lesson contexts, and assisting with a number of JMU courses. I have
observed her thoughtful approach in many contexts, including as a student instructor for the New Horizons Band in
which Nanda provided leadership and instruction for the older adults in the ensemble. It has been a pleasure to
watch her growth as a student and teacher over the time I have known her.

Nanda possesses an admirable intellect; she thinks deeply about the field of music education and her own teaching.
She has presented research at several professional conferences, and her GPA reflects her high level of scholarship. I
have enjoyed Nanda as a student in my courses. She contributes important ideas, prepares consistently, and typically
performed at the top of her classes.

Nanda possesses outstanding motivation to challenge herself and seek opportunities for growth. Her work reflects
the highest standards of achievement, and she prepares materials in a thorough manner. She complements her
natural talents and work ethic with an outstanding professional attitude in all of her activities. She has additionally
held a number of leadership positions, including a drum major for the Marching Royal Dukes and positions in her
fraternity and the JMU collegiate chapter of the National Association for Music Education.

Nanda has exceptional skills, desire, and talent and is well on her way to becoming an outstanding music educator.
She will make an excellent addition to a school faculty. I highly recommend her for a teaching position.

Sincerely,

William M. Dabback, Ph.D.
