I will use a check list to see whether the children compare
and contrast the ramps that have been built.

your evidence into a class or group view?)
I will use the checklist as a whole class view as
documentation.
Academic Language:
Steep, incline, ramp, speed, pipe, tube, tape, marble,
compare, contrast
Procedural steps:
1. Lay out the materials for the activity.
2. Gather the children in the large group area
3. Explain to them what each material is
4. Show them the pipe and how they can use it.
5. Show them the marble that they will be using and that
the marble will only be used for the ramp
6. Tell them that you would like them to take the
material and create a ramp with the material. Be as
creative as you can.
7. Have the children get their materials and go to a spot
in the room to work on their materials
8. Walk around and help if need be and ask questions
and observe the children.
9. When the children are done gather them back in the
large group area and ask questions like what they
learned from this experience and what was difficult or
easy.
10. Have the children walk around the room watching
their classmates demonstrate their ramp and then go
back to large group and compare the ramps.
Authentic Materials: Pipes, tape, marble
Adult Roles:
My role: instruct the children on what they are doing and
observe what they are doing and ask questions
Emily’s role: record data
Teachers role: monitor activity
Aid’s role: help the children who they are assigned to.
