Assignment Title: Q1 end of unit social issue paper

Student Writing Goal: My writing goal is to score an 80% or higher on my mid-unit and end of unit assessments. I
would also like to improve on my writing skills and to stay on task with the prompt. Lastly I want to improve on my
vocabulary skills.

What was the purpose of this writing assignment?

The purpose of this writing assignment was to highlight some of the issues that we have in our society. The
issue I recognized was the minors consent law. There are many people who are trying to overrule this law and
I disagree; I believe that teens should have the right to be responsible and take charge of their life. A teen is a
child, legally still attached to their parent or guardian however there are many household that will not even
allow the talk of sexual activity take place. Another reason for that this law should not be overruled is
because birth control is not just for safe sex but many medical specialist have proven birth control can
improve your health in many other ways.

How did you perform in relation to the expectations of the writing rubric?
What I did to perform in relation to the expectations of the writing rubric was examining different websites to
have as resources. I also gave both a counter-claim and a claim to help show both sides of the argument. With
this topic I can honestly argue both sides because, teenagers should have access to the contraceptives they
need to protect themselves however I feel a parent has the right to know to a certain extent. This is a topic I
feel very passionate about because this is something that affects my generation of teens and minors who feel
the need to protect themselves.

What aspect of this piece did you do well? (give example/quotes to support claims)
The aspect of this piece I did well on was my arguments. Personally I see both side of the argument. Parents
should know what is happening in their children’s life and they should have an open relationship with their
child, and if a child feels they have reached the level of maturity to place in sexual activity they should be
responsible enough to communicate with their parents. However children who live in foster home or very
strict religious household they do not have the option to have that conversation. Teens need to be responsible
and they need to be able to protect themselves they need to be able to feel safe and comfortable.

Why have you/haven’t you chosen to revise this writing assignment?

I have chosen to revise this writing assignment because this is a topic I feel really strongly about. I have also
choose this paper for my senior portfolio. I feel I can most definitely expand the paper and find more
resources to cite evidence. There is you can say because this affects my generations of children and my
parents’ generation of adults so this topic hit really close to home.

What will you do better in your next writing assignment, and how will I do it?
What I will do better on in my next writing assignment is staying on task and committing to the prompt. I will
do it by getting a more advance and dependable website for a resource. I can also do better by getting more
research for facts.

To what degree of success did you achieve your previously stated goal(s)?
For the most part I did pretty successful on achieving my previously stated goal. My grade was a reflection on
the effort I put in the paper. I also was very passionate about the assignment. I also stepped a little out of me
comfort zone with phrases and figurative language.
