Moo The reading “The Wretched of the Earth” by Frantz Fanon is something that I have personally

experienced and relate to. The idea of violence seem farfetched to one that has not been oppressed.
Once a person sees death, dying, and destruction everything changes. The person becomes numb to
death and violence. Frantz explains how violence leads to violence. In the process of colonizing, violent
atrocities are committed. It is never an easy road to liberate or colonize people. Many will die and
suffer. Through time the idea of death and torture becomes the norm and people especially children
lose their innocence. They no longer feel human anymore. When you have been violently and forcefully
colonized the only way to regain your freedom is through the same concept. Violence speaks louder
than words. No one listens to words like they listen to violence. In the reading the most interesting part
was the dialogue between the rebel and the mother. The one verse when the mother says “And I had
dreamed of a son to close his mother’s eyes.” Really touched me. She is referring that when she
dies her son was supposed to close her eyes and what is happening is the exact opposite. The dialogue
between the two is something I have seen many times in my past positions. Every time I hear that
statement it speaks as loud as the first time I heard it years ago.
