Peer Pressure Proposal

Peer pressure happens everywhere in the world, in so many different ways.

People fall into peer pressure without even knowing they are, and this is why it is a big
issue. Not knowing people are falling into something that can hurt can hurt them is
scary. This problem is not noticed as much as it should be, and we are wanting to make
awareness to this problem.
For our project, we will be showing the negative effects peer pressure has on
people at school. The school environment is the most common place of where peer
pressure takes place. Our goal is to show what impact peer pressure has on students.
Research has been done to see what makes people fall into peer pressure. AACAP
states that the influence of peers starts at an early age, then progresses in the teen
years. The biggest reason why teenagers will fall into peer pressure is because they
want to fit in, based on AACAP’s research. In high school, teens struggle with being
confident with who they are. People want to impress others to prove they are “cool
enough” to hang around them. This project, we hope, will help someone gain the
confidence to not fall into what others want them to do.
I realize that this project might not get the publicity we are hoping for, but with
confidence I am sure we will be able to change at least one life with this idea. There are
people out there struggling with this issue and we hope to make an impact. Another
concern you might be thinking about is money. The only thing we would have to spend
money on, would be paper for the posters. This will be coming out of our own pockets,
realizing that it would be difficult to put the schools money into this. Our budget is $30 to
spend on paper and markers. There will be three people in our group to help with the
project and expenses. We are wanting to put up posters in the school, flyers downtown,
and post on social media about it. Putting posters in the school hallways will allow
students to hopefully recognize what peer pressure is, and if they have fallen’ into it
without realizing. It’s possible to be blind to peer pressure because of how normal it has
become. Having a visual of the issue will cause awareness of it.
Teenagers are already stressing about their grades, putting social pressure on
top of that can be too much for some. It’s an issue that makes people self-conscious,
but it also can take people's lives. We don’t realize how big of an impact our peers can
make on us, so this is why this project could help people that are struggling with it.
Approving this project could allow us to make a difference in someone's life, and to
make it known that people are still struggling with this everyday without knowing they
are falling into a trap.
