Reflection: (What have you learned about your students? How will this inform future instruction?)

I learned so much when doing this lesson. My students really enjoyed the activity we did. They liked having the freedom to do as

they choose within the lesson. The few times I have seen instruction or a guided activity in my classroom, it has never allowed space or

time for students to express themselves in the way they choose within an activity. Because of this, I wanted to create an experience that

allowed them to do this. The students were engaged the entire duration of the experience. In the end, we did recall time in order ot give

them a chance to reflect on what they did and compare it to their classmates’. They were so excited after the lesson to talk about their

own personal pizza. We discussed why everyone’s pizza was different and how that relates to the fact that people like different tastes.

They all were trying to talk at once about their pizza. Needless to say, they were eager. For future instruction, I think I need to improve

on transitions and cohesiveness throughout the lesson. From taking notes and observing the students, while trying to instruct some of

the students that missed the directions the first time, I had a hard time making it cohesive. The students had a hard time transitioning

from work time, to pre-lesson discussion and then again from the lesson to post-lesson discussion. I had a hard time gaining their

attention in a way that each student was attentive and respectful listening to their peer talk. I think next time I am going to have a talking

animal or some type of instructional tool that allows only the student with the animal or object to share at that time. I think this will help

in not only future lessons in the classroom but also classroom management in general. All in all, I think the lesson went really well. The

things I learned about classroom management in this lesson will be helpful in future lessons and in my classroom.
