Summary A peaceful, tropical world is the setting for Morning Girl, a simple yet
rich glimpse into the lives of a young sister and brother. Morning Girl
and Star Boy grapple with timeless, universal issues such as
experiencing simultaneous anger and love toward family members and
the quest to discover the true self.
Directions Locate San Salvador, Haiti, Cuba and Puerto Rico on a map. In which
ocean do they lie? Off which coast of the U.S.?

Directions If you were living on such an island in the 15th century and a great storm
was raging, how might you protect yourself? Remember, the only
"buildings" are huts made from tropical trees.

Directions Draw a picture of what you image their home area looks like. It could be
a picture or look like a map of the area, however you want to draw it.

Directions Have students get into groups (no more than 3 per group) and make
three columns on the paper. The three headings will be Now, Then, and
Same. They will then discuss how the people were, culture, family
structures where then compared to now. Try to come up with at least 3
or 4 for each column.Then go around the groups and have them read
aloud what then have and after all have gone, discuss. You may even
want to write them on the board for easy comparison.
