2. In this online activity, my online students will use a simulation on constructing sound
arguments to have an individual experience based upon their unique choices. Each
child’s end-result will be different, and I will grade them online by evaluating their
understanding of thesis statements and conditional statements.
Online Activity The teacher will introduce ‘if-then’ statements to the class.
Fallacies and sound arguments will also be provided as
examples and why they are important to understand. The
teacher will have several video examples clipped from
interviews and public arguments. The teacher will point out
weaknesses or fallacies in the first arguments. A discussion
board will be open for the students to participate in and
submit their thoughts on a video they select to analyze (not
one the teacher has already supplied feedback for). The
students will also be able to find an argument not supplied and
receive approval from the instructor. The teacher will then
read over the submissions and provide feedback to assist with
any areas of weakness or misunderstanding.
The students will then use the simulation from ISL to quiz
themselves on their ability to pinpoint why an argument is not
sound or is fallacious while learning the forms of weak
arguments. They will also provide additional information as to
how to make the argument stronger by submitting their
thoughts on a discussion board (which will be configured to
Pedagogy
For a quiz grade, the students will submit a poor and valid
argument to demonstrate their knowledge of making an
argument. This will preface a research paper that requires
these skills to be put in place as well as make them sharp
students of logic.
