The ASTM A36 specification is the Standard Specification for Carbon Structural Steel used in the construction of bridges and buildings, and in
general structural applications.

Mechanical Properties
Tensile testing is performed in the transverse direction according to ASTM A6 requirements. The required tensile properties are tabulated
below:

Elongation requirements reflect the two percentage point reduction for plates wider than 24 in. See the Elongation Requirement Adjustments subsection in the
