5 min  Ask them to write their names on a piece of paper and put it on
their desk
Intro
 I’m new in Taiwan what are some ways that people travel
around?
o Scooter, car, train, plane, subway, boat, etc
15 min
 If I started from the university what is the fastest way I can get
to Taipei?
 Where should I go while I’m staying in Taiwan?
o If they don’t give answer rephrase as where do you
recommend I go?
 If the weather is bad where could I go instead?
o (Write sentences elicited from the students on the board)
 Ex. You should go to Feng chia night market
 Get at least 5 sentences
 Underli ne the modal should/could
 Today we will be using the modal should + base verb to give
advice and could + base verb to give alternative options.
 Talk about how all the persons are the same I, you, he/she, we,
they

Textbook page 100-101
15 min  Practice the fill in the blank for the modals in pairs
o Get students to use the worksheet and practice the
sentences aloud with their partners
o Take up by asking students to read the complete
sentences aloud
 Discussion about using the schedule to discuss all the possible
15 min choices
 Ask each group for a different possibility

Be +going to + base verb


 Now I want you to look back at these sentences we made from
earlier
 I can’t do these things today because I’m busy teaching you, I
want to talk about something I will do in the future. “I am going
to travel to (place) on Saturday”
 Use previous sentences to make new sentences using be+going
to+base verb eliciting responses from students
15 min  Underline be+going to+base verb today were also talking about
be+going to+ base verb to talk about the future
 Talk about how the verb be changes for the persons: am, are, is,
are
 Talk about reduced forms of spoken English “Gonna”
 Repeat after me 3x

 Complete part B circling the correct verb forms
10 min  Once complete ask students to read each sentence aloud to the
class

Human GPS
 Split the class into small groups numbering each students to
25 min make even groups
 Get them to pick a team name
 Instructions first
o I will give out maps to each group
o One half of the group will be the human GPS’s the other
will be the people taking the trip
o I will give the GPS half of the group a start location on
their map and an end location
o When I say go I want you to tell the other members in
your group which way they should go and what mode of
transport they should use (Do not show or tell the end
location to the other half of your group)
o Ask a student to tell you what we are going to do
 Make it a competition to see who can finish first
 Repeat one more time by switching papers between groups and
changing roles (i.e. gps students become travellers)
