Express Drive:

A lot has been speculated about the new 2018 Hyundai Santro in the last few
months. The kind of interest generated by this car in the market clearly makes it
the biggest launch of the year taking place around the festive season. Here's what
the reviewer think of the new Hyundai Santro and highlight its strengths and
weaknesses. The design, to start with is similar to the original Santro, not visually
but more so in a thematic way. The new Santro, like its predecessor, has a quirky
looking front end. The headlamps and grille do a good job of accentuating the car's
width, giving it a premium feel. The side has a good mix of lines that make for an
entertaining sight. The rear sports sharp looking tail lamps along with a dual color
bumper, all of which not only looks impressive but fresh as well.

The 2018 Hyundai Santro is the reincarnation of the erstwhile Santro Xing, which
was a very popular model. The old Santro was discontinued in 2014 and Hyundai
has re-introduced the new model which features a completely revamped design. It
gets rid of the tallboy stance but looks remarkable because of its neutral
appearance. The interiors have been given a complete overhaul and the engine has
been carried forward from the Eon. Positioned above the Eon, the 2018 Hyundai
Santro is set to stir the segment with its fresh design and vast equipment list.

Car Dekho

Hyundai is the second highest-selling carmaker in India with a wide range of

products in various segments. The Korean manufacturer entered the Indian
automotive market in 1998 with the launch of the Santro hatchback, which was
also re-introduced in October 2018. Hyundai has garnered a reputation for offering
quality products with the most features, often setting new benchmarks for its
competitors. For instance, the 2017 Hyundai Verna was the first car in its segment
to offer ventilated front seats and now the 2018 Hyundai Santro is the first in it.
Hyundai ranks highest in after-sales customer satisfaction as per a 2018 JD Power

India Customer Service Index (Mass Market) Study. Hyundai has invested in
creating a vast network of dealerships and service centers, the second-largest in
India, for the convenience of both new and existing customers. The brand currently
has 495 dealers and more than 1,300 service points across the country along with
an R&D facility in Hyderabad. Hyundai also manufactures select products for
export from India, shipping to more than 80 countries across the globe.

The second generation car brings many firsts to the segment, but unlike the
previous Santro - which was the only B segment offering from the Korean
carmaker - the new Santro has come at a time when there is plenty of sub-
segmentation. So while the last Santro evolved to the i10, which in turn
progressed to the Grand i10, the new Santro needs to now occupy a position
that's one slot lower. The Santro has been launched at competitive (though not
aggressive) prices, and offers petrol/CNG as well as manual/AMT options.

First Drive:
The Hyundai Santro, much like its brand ambassador Shah Rukh Khan, is a car
that needs no introduction. The car that started it all for Hyundai in India, the
original Santro wasn’t very attractive looking, but it had a peppy responsive
engine, was light and easy to drive and came with many segment-firsts. This
eventually made it a household name in India. Now Hyundai has brought its tall
boy back well, sort of. The new Santro certainly looks sharper than the Eon. Gone
are the loose, flowing, 'fluidic' lines and in comes a sharp, almost sculpted look.
Hyundai’s ‘cascading' grille takes centre stage on the front bumper. Stretched out
and placed in a black surround, it gets a pair of neat fog lamps as well as a sporty
'V' shape. The new Santro carries forward the 'tall boy' DNA, it doesn’t seem
particularly lofty, and this is thanks to the increase in length and width. The
wheelbase now is 2,400mm, the car is 3,610mm long, and the wide track also
means Hyundai has made sure there's plenty of space for passengers.

Hyundai has launched the all-new Santro in the Indian market at a starting price of
Rs 3.89 lakh ex-showroom (India). The new Hyundai Santro 2018 sports a new
design language and comes equipped with segment-first features. The new
Hyundai Santro 2018 features an all-new design language but retains the signature
tall-boy stance of the original Santro. The new Hyundai Santro is modern, stylish
and comes packed with features to dominate the entry-level hatchback segment.
The new Hyundai Santro rivals the likes of Renault Kwid, Maruti Celerio, Maruti
WagonR and the Tata Tiago.

Economic Times:

In a bid to make a strong comeback in the entry car segment, South Korean car
maker Hyundai Motor India has launched its much talked about small car Santro at
an aggressive price ex-showroom New Delhi. By pricing it at an introductory price
of Rs 3.89 lakh to Rs 5.45 lakh ex-showroom New Delhi for the first 50,000
customers for manual transmission,Rs 5.18 lakh to Rs 5.46 lakh for automated
manual transmission variant, Rs 5.23 lakh to Rs 5.65 lakh for CNG, Hyundai will
force competition to take notice and adjust prices for their entry car offerings
accordingly.

Business Today:

The new Hyundai Santro has finally been unveiled by the company two weeks
before the official launch of the car. The car is just in time for the festive season
and Hyundai opened the pre-bookings for the car from October 10. The pre-
bookings were done online by the first 50,000 people and book the car for down
payment of Rs. 11,100.

Financial Chronicle:
Hyundai officials said the new petrol engine is compliant with Bharat Stage VI
emission norms. With the norms slated to come into effect from April 1, 2020, the
Santro will also be Hyundai's first car that is BS-VI compatible. Officials said the
rural and semi-rural markets will be major sources of buyers for the Santro, and
buyers from this segment will make up 50-60 per cent of the total sales of the car.

Money Control:

Introduced in 1998, the Santro was Hyundai's first Indian car. The tall-boy stance
that the car featured was adored by many and was responsible for many memories
for the buyers in India - a space where Maruti was ruling the roost with cars like
Maruti Zen. In 1999 Maruti launched the WagonR to take on the Santro and a year
later, Hyundai introduced the Santro ZipDrive with power steering. Hyundai also
followed it up with Santro Zip Plus in 2002. The final model that took on the
Santro monicker was launched in 2003. Named the Santro Xing, the car was finally
discontinued in 2015 along with the Santro brand. Three years later Hyundai has
revived the Santro brand with an all-new car and an all-new engine, but with the
same tall-boy stance that everybody loved.

AutoCar

Hyundai India has begun dispatching its upcoming Santro hatchback, which is
launched on Tuesday, October 23, 2018. Additionally, for the first time, Hyundai is
offering a new AMT gearbox, which makes its debut in the Santro. The Hyundai
Santro Smart Auto AMT will also be available on the Magna and Sportz trims,
which mean the top-spec Santro Asta won't come with an AMT gearbox. Hyundai
will also not offer the Santro AMT with a CNG option. The Santro petrol MT is
claimed to deliver a 20.3kpl fuel efficiency figure while the CNG variant will do
30.5km/kg. Speaking of the warranty, the company offers a three-year/1, 00,000km
warranty on the Santro along with a three-year roadside assistance package.

The Indian Express:

India’s once popular hatchback, Santro, is back in the Indian market as the South
Korean auto major Hyundai launched the car with introductory prices starting at Rs
3.89 lakh (ex-showroom). With its modern stylish tall boy design, the four-wheeler
is aimed at family buyers who seek comfort with spacious cabin feel and without
compromising on styling.
Auto Tech Review:
The introductory price was for the first 50,000 customers. Before the launch, the
company has already received bookings for over 23,500 units. Safety features
include ABS with EBD and impact sensing auto door unlock. The car will compete
with the likes of Maruti Suzuki’s WagonR, Celerio and Tata Motors’ Tiago in the
mid-compact segment which is about 30,000 units a month. The new Santro will
be available in an array of 7 exterior colours including 2 new colours – Imperial
Beige and Diana Green.

Rush Lane:
2018 Hyundai Santro, is an entry level hatchback positioned between the Eon and
Grand i10 in the company line-up. It is offered in four variants of Era, Magna, Asta
and Sportz. Built and developed at the company’s research centers in Hyderabad
and Korea, at an investment of $100 million over a period of 3 years, the new
Santro comes in with several segment first features. It is the most silent car in the
segment, as well as the one with most powerful AC.

The Hindu Business Line:

When the original Hyundai Santro was first launched in 1998, it was a very
different world. There were very few small cars to choose from and Hyundai was a
nearly unheard of brand for the average first time Indian car buyer. The only other
contenders then were the Tata Indica, the Daewoo Matiz and the Maruti Zen. Two
decades on and it is a very different landscape one that is populated with many
more brands and small car choices, and is a reflection of the depth and maturity of
the Indian car market. Into this market, Hyundai launched the second generation
Santro this October and will hope to rekindle the magic of the original.
