Subjective Test

Answer to (Q: 1)
We know, for a positive charge, the field lines emerge out of a charge and for a negative charge, the field lines
converge into the charge. From the figure, it is evident that the field lines are emerging out of 𝑞2 and converging
into 𝑞1 . Hence, 𝑞1 is negative and 𝑞2 is positive.
Again, since the lines drawn are proportional to the magnitude of charges. From the figure, it is evident that 6
lines are entering 𝑞1 and 18 lines are emerging out of 𝑞2 .
Hence,
𝑞1 𝑛𝑢𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟 𝑜𝑓 𝑓𝑖𝑒𝑙𝑑 𝑙𝑖𝑛𝑒𝑠 𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑖𝑛𝑡𝑜 𝑞1 6 1
= = =
𝑞2 𝑛𝑢𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟 𝑜𝑓 𝑓𝑖𝑒𝑙𝑑 𝑙𝑖𝑛𝑒𝑠 𝑒𝑚𝑒𝑟𝑔𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑜𝑢𝑡 𝑜𝑓 𝑞2 18 3

Answer to (Q: 2)
Here, at ice point or 0℃, pressure is 80 𝑐𝑚. Again, at steam point or 100℃, pressure is 90 𝑐𝑚. Hence,
𝑅𝑖𝑠𝑒 𝑖𝑛 𝑡𝑒𝑚𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑒 (100 − 0)
𝑅𝑖𝑠𝑒 𝑖𝑛 𝑡𝑒𝑚𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑒 𝑝𝑒𝑟 𝑢𝑛𝑖𝑡 𝑟𝑖𝑠𝑒 𝑖𝑛 𝑝𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑠𝑢𝑟𝑒 = = = 10℃𝑐𝑚−1
𝑅𝑖𝑠𝑒 𝑖𝑛 𝑝𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑠𝑢𝑟𝑒 (90 − 80)
Now, when pressure is 100 𝑐𝑚, the rise in pressure is 10 𝑐𝑚 from steam point. Hence,
𝑇𝑒𝑚𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑤𝑎𝑥 𝑏𝑎𝑡ℎ = 100 + (10 × 10) = 200℃

Answer to (Q: 3)
The electric potential energy is given by 𝑈 = 𝑞𝑉, where, 𝑞 is the charge and 𝑉 is the potential of the charge at
that point due to presence of other charges. Hence, when a positive charge is moved from low potential region to
high potential region, 𝑉 will increase as so will 𝑈.

Answer to (Q: 4)
When an electron is transferred from Sodium atom to Chlorine atom, Sodium gains a positive charge due to the
presence of one extra proton and similarly, Chlorine gains a negative charge due to presence of one extra
electron. The distance between the ions is given as 𝑑 = 2.75 × 10−8 𝑐𝑚 = 2.75 × 10−10 𝑚.
(We have ignored the presence or effect of charges of other electrons or the nuclei in the periphery)
Hence,
1 𝑞𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑡𝑜𝑛 𝑞𝑒𝑙𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑟𝑜𝑛 (1.6 × 10−19 ) × (1.6 × 10−19 )
𝐹𝑜𝑟𝑐𝑒 𝑏𝑒𝑡𝑤𝑒𝑒𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑚 = 2
= 9 × 109 ×
4𝜋𝜖0 𝑑 (2.75 × 10−10 )2
Performing the calculations,
𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑟𝑒𝑞𝑢𝑖𝑟𝑒𝑑 𝑓𝑜𝑟𝑐𝑒 𝑖𝑠 3.05 × 10−9 𝑁
