Research Question

Is There a Correlation Between Class

Workload and the Success and Well
Being of Students?
 DEMOGRAPHIC

●  90 total participants

●  68 women and 22 men

●  Most participants were Female

freshman at 41 out of the 90
entries - 45.5% of participants
 CLASS LOAD
●  University expects students to be
spending 2 hours outside of class
per week for every hour in class,
this means 30 hours per week
outside of class- aka 5 hours/day
for 15 credit hours

●  The majority of survey participants

were enrolled in 15-16 credit
hours

●  Our survey suggests that on

average most students can
manage only 3 hours/day on
homework
 WORK LOAD

●  A little over 60% of

participants have job.

●  Those with jobs, work on

average 22 hours/ week.
However some worked as
many as 45 hours/ week.

●  For many students, this looks

like taking weeknight and
weekend shifts
STUDENT STRUGGLE

●  36% (31 students) of

participants rated their stress
at a 7 or higher

●  86% have neglected lower

point class work in order to
complete larger ticket items

The Expected
Week

student week is broken

expectation, 15% of the
week is left for anything
outside of school, work,
travel, and sleep.

●  This equates to 3 hours

a day (or one 24 hr day)
for showering, getting
ready, eating (BLD),
bathroom use, chores,
and god forbid relaxing.
Conclusion

The work load expected of students Is much more than

they are realistically capable, and the majority of students
find themselves struggling and stressed to complete their
work, often times having to neglect tasks.

Solutions?
Data showed more students being able to do 2-3 hours of homework a night. So perhaps we
could start assigning a work load for that availability, rather than a 5 hour per night work load
to students who just don’t have the time.
