Three of the objectives of this class were to be able to “approach new computer-based tasks more

easily and with greater confidence,” “describe key terms and concepts associated with computers

and software applications,” and “create a web-based personal portfolio showcasing learning over

the semester.” This are three objectives I strived to achieve over the course of the semester.

Upon taking this class, I have been given the opportunity to learn about new software

applications that I did not know much about. Before taking this class, I have used the

applications of Powerpoint, Word, and Photoshop. In high school, I used Microsoft Word to

write papers and reports, PowerPoint to create presentations and Photoshop to manipulate images

in my graphic design class. I was very familiar with these applications and was excited to

continue to work with them during class. However, I have not used Excel and Publisher prior to

taking this class. When learning about these applications, I obtained useful information that will

help me in my future. I am now able to create spreadsheets and data charts using Excel as well as

creating calendars, brochures, greeting cards and business cards using Publisher. These two

applications will be helpful to me in my future because as an elementary school teacher because

there are possibilities that I might need to make charts or calendars. Not only will they help me

in my future career, but they can be useful for my everyday life.

I have learned a lot of great information while taking this class. While gaining insight on

different software applications, I have been given the opportunity to create a digital portfolio to

showcase my work. I was introduced to Weebly, a website intended to allow users to create their

own website or portfolio. I created a unique website, displaying my various pieces of work.

Since technology is continuing to “take over” today’s society, it is extremely helpful to know

how to use different applications and be comfortable with new technological advances. As well

as learning new applications in this class, I have also learned more about email and internet

search strategies. Before taking this class, I believed that if you deleted emails or anything you

wrote, they would be deleted forever. However, I now know that whatever you write or send on

email, even if you delete it afterwards, will always be saved somewhere. Anything written on the

internet is never deleted and will always exist even if you do not have access to it. When learning

about Internet search strategies, I have obtained information about advanced searches and using

the key terms “AND,” “OR” and “NOT”. With these key terms I am now able to search the

Internet in an easier and quicker manner.

Upon taking this class, I am able to safely say that I have achieved the course objectives which I

set as goals for myself. This class has truly helped me learn more about software applications as

well as the advancing technology. After taking this class, I have gained confidence in

approaching computer tasks and am now more familiar with different software applications. I am

now also able to use these experiences in my future classroom as an elementary school teacher as

well as my day to day life.
