WHAT IS CODING?
• Which of the following is an example of coding?
WHAT IS CODING?
•  Coding is the instructions
in a computer program.

•  Instructions written by a
programmer in a
programming language are
often called source code.

•  Instructions that have been


converted into a language
that the computer
understands are called
machine code or
executable code .
HOW TO CODE
•  Programmers tell the computer what to do when the program
runs.
•  The button “when run” acts as the start of this code. It tells the
computer what to make the character do.
•  Below is an example of a completed code that a student can
complete.

•  Students as young as TK are capable of learning coding!

•  TK, K, 1st
•  Students can learn about sequencing to get a toy to follow
their command.
•  1st, 2nd, 3rd
•  Students can begin putting their sequential order into
practice getting a toy or character in an online game to get
from Point A to Point B.
•  3rd, 4th, 5th
•  Students can create multiple lines of code to execute more
complicated actions such as creating their own video game

and games on slides 8-10.
•  Come up with one way you might use these toys or
games within your grade level to help your students
learn to code.
