3.1 Modified Waterfall Approach Model

The Modified Waterfall Model consists of Requirements Analysis, Design,

Implementation, Testing, and Maintenance. It develops systematically from one phase to

another in a downward fashion, just like a waterfall. The researchers have chosen this

model to accommodate changes in the project midway through the phases depending on

the feedback and evaluation.

3.1.1 Requirements Analysis

Research on applicable algorithms and theories was done to help create

solutions for the problem. The group has chosen the Dijkstra’s algorithm for

finding the shortest paths between objects. Bucket Sort for sorting which kinds of

garbage appear in every part of the house.

Data gathering was done in order to collect data from the respondents by

observing and conducting a survey to identify garbage production, segregation,

and collection.

3.1.2 Design

The game world was conceptualized in this phase. It consists of roads and

houses that imitate the actual roads and houses in Brgy. Punta Taytay.

The models for all the objects and character that appear in the game are

roughly created. This was done using pen and paper. The over-all appearance as

well as the colors was decided in this activity.

3.1.3 Implementation
Graphical User Interface is created in this phase by making a rough draft

of what it looks like. It contains everything that the user sees and interacts with.

This is the phase where colors, graphics, and the like are introduced and finalized.

In the coding part, the design of the study is translated into code by using

appropriate software.

3.1.4 Testing

Alpha testing is done by the members of the group in a controlled

environment. Possible issues and bugs are addressed. This is to improve the

quality of the product and ensure its readiness.

Beta testing is performed by the target end-users and is considered as a

form of user-acceptance testing. Direct feedback from the target users is needed to

ensure that the product is ready for deployment.

3.1.5 Maintenance

Researchers provide support to the respondents by conducting training

programs where the project’s full functions and features are taught to the users.

Maintenance is performed to deliver changes for the user environment.

There are also some issues which come up during the use of the respondents. In

order to fix those issues, patches are released. Better versions are released to

further improve the gaming experience of the users.

3.2 Other Traditional Methodologies

3.2.1 Survey

The survey is done by randomly choosing 20 households to answer the

survey questionnaires. The survey questionnaire is constructed to determine the

respondents’ garbage production, practices, and segregation.

The researchers conduct the survey in Brgy. Punta Taytay. The recipients

are requested to fill up the survey questionnaires. The questions were mostly

regarding their production of garbage and practices of segregation.

The data gathered from the respondents are carefully analyzed and

interpreted.

3.2.2 Interview

The researchers prepared interview guide questions. Mobile phones are

prepared to record the interview.

The researchers meet the interviewee at the Barangay Hall. The

interviewee is asked about the production of garbage in the barangay and also the

ordinances related to garbage. The interview is documented to gather necessary

information needed for the study.

The information gathered from the interviewee is useful in the design and

development of the study.
