Classroom Procedures

General Procedures

A. Start of the Class-At the beginning of the classroom period, all students will report to their

assigned desks with their text book and laptop/tablet. All paperwork will be turned in prior to

seating and paperwork used in the class will be on the desk for each student. All cell phones will

be turned off and placed in the student’s bag which will be placed in the back of the class.

1. Attendance Check-Attendance will be checked according to the assigned seating chart

of the students.

2. Students Absent the Previous Day-Students who were absent the previous day will

retrieve the previous day’s assignment from the assignment bin located on the teacher’s

desk.

3. Tardy Students-Any student arriving late to the classroom will be expected to enter the

class as quiet as possible as to keep from interrupting the current activity that is taking

place.

4. Behavior Expected by All Students-All students are expected to use appropriate

language when addressing the teacher or others. Respect for others is expected to be

shown. No phones are allowed in the classroom without permission and use of

computers/laptops are only to be used with directions from the teacher.

5. Leaving the Room-Students will notify the teacher when they need to use the restroom

or other facilities such as the nurse. When leaving and returning they will do so quietly

as possible, without bothering or disrespecting any other students or teachers.


B. Use of Materials and Equipment-Students are expected to bring their textbook everyday

unless previously told otherwise. They are to have a writing utensil and notebook. The teacher

can provide support material if the excuse from the student is plausible.

1. Equipment and Materials for Students-Students will have either a pen or pencil to

write with. They will also have a notebook for notes or writing down anything else

provided by the teacher. Students laptops/tablets will be used when told to do so by the

teacher, otherwise these devices will be on the desk and powered off.

2. Teacher Materials and Equipment-Any equipment not owned by the individual student

shall not be used without permission. Equipment such as the whiteboard, projector, or

teacher owned laptop/tablet is off limits without teacher authorization. Any teacher

material shall not be handled unless the teacher has given it to a student to use or to pass

out.

C. Ending the Period-When the classroom period ends, students will not leave until dismissed

by the teacher. The bell does not dismiss, the teacher does. Unless otherwise not possible,

students will be given one or two minutes before the dismissal bell to prepare to leave the

classroom by getting their bags and putting away their support materials.

Procedures During Seat Work and Teacher-Led Instruction

A. Student Attention During Presentations-Students will give their utmost attention to

any presentation given by the teacher or another student. Students will not sleep, talk, use

electronic devices.
B. Student Participation-Students are expected to participate during

instruction/presentations. This includes asking or answering questions, taking notes when

required.

C. Procedures for Seat Work-Any work required to be completed at a student’s desk will

be done without interfering in other students work. Seat work can include quizzes, exams,

or any other assignment given by the teacher.

D. Talk among Students-Talking amongst the students will only be acceptable when in

group work or when allowed by the teacher. Talking will be at a quiet pitch so that other

groups can hear each other, and other classrooms will not be bothered by talking students.

E. Obtaining Help-When a student needs help, he/she will raise their hand and wait to be

called upon or acknowledged by the teacher. Interrupting the lesson or instruction

without being called upon is not acceptable.

F. Out-of-Seat Procedures-Students will not be allowed out of their seat unless given

permission by the teacher. When a student is given permission to leave their seat, they

should do so quietly, without bothering others. They should return to their seat in the

same manner as soon as their task is completed.

G. When Seat Work Has Been Completed-A student at their desk that has completed their

assignment may work on other assignments or ask for permission to use the sitting area to

read or meditate.

Student Group Work

A. Use of Materials and Supplies-Supplies for group work will be provided by the teacher

for major projects. All other material will be supplied by the students and can be used

with permission, by others in the group or by other groups.


B. Assignment of Students to Groups-Assignments of the student groups will be done by

the teacher on most occasions. Some group assignments, students will be allowed to pick

their own groups.

C. Student Goals and Participation-The groups will have active participation from all

students. Each student assigned to the group will provide equal support and contribution

to the assignment given. The goals for the students in the groups will be to achieve the

best grade possible in group cooperation.

Miscellaneous Procedures

A. Signals-Raising of the hand will be used to ask permission. A student will be called upon

by the teacher before they will be able to talk or get up from their desk.

B. Public Address Announcements and Other Interruptions-If announcements or the

intercom system is used by the office or other school personnel, students will give

provide their attention and not interrupt or talk to others until the announcements or other

use of the intercom is over.

C. Special Equipment and Materials-Any special equipment or material that may be used

by the student will be carefully used and taken care of. The student must have the

teacher’s permission to use this equipment and must sign out the material or equipment in

the ledger.

D. Fire and Disaster Drills-When there is a fire drill/emergency, students will follow the

directions that are implemented by the school. Students will act with respect and will

behave appropriately.
E. Split Lunch Period-Students will attend lunch and behave appropriately. They can use

their lunch period to socialize with other students, work on homework or other

assignments, and even rest to prepare for the remainder of the day.
