Establishing Rules

When making rules it is important to explain the reasoning and why the rules were

established in the first place. According to the Classroom Management text “It is useful to

involve students in rule setting to promote student ownership of the rules and student

responsibility for their own behavior” (Emmer & Evertson, 2017). It would probably be a good

idea to post the rules and procedures in the classroom so that the students may have access to

refer to them. They will also be allowed to see their expectation in the posted rules. The

classroom rules may not always refer to the all-around school rules but should not override or

contradict those that are already established school wide.
