Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity

A. Preparation
a. Review

Before we will proceed to our topic this

morning, let’s have a recap first on our last topic
last meeting.

Which is all about what? It is all about the chromosomes ma’am.

Right! Again, what is a chromosome? A chromosome ma’am is an entire chain of DNA

along with a group of stabilizing proteins.

How about the different parts of chromosome, Answers:

can you enumerate those parts? Chromatids
Centromere
Chromatin
Gene

Very good class, this shows that all of you

understand our topic this yesterday.
B. Motivation

Now class before we start our topic for

today. Let me ask you first if you know
what is a cycle?

Okay so for those who answered yes, can

you tell me what a cycle is.

Ms. Datumanong? Do you have any idea? A cycle ma’am is an event that happen again and
again in the same order.
Okay very good. So this time I will divide
you into three groups and please remain in
your groups until the end of this lesson.
Okay so this side will be the group 1, you
are the group 2 and the last side will be the
group 3.

Now listen. Class I want each group to make

a cycle, and to be more specific, make a
cycle that can only be seen here in the
classroom, like for example you’re uniform.
(You wear it, get dirty, then you’ll wash and
dry the uniform and again wear it.). So that
is an example and each group should make
that simple kind of a cycle.

Understood?

Now, this activity is only good for 3 min.

and do it as fast as you can because I have
here the prizes and the winner will of course
can get the big catch. So just raise your flag
if you’re finish.
Okay now start!

Allotted time: 3 minutes

Now, class base on our short activity a while

ago, we can say that all the things here on
earth undergo a cycle even us.
But do you know that even parts and a little
particles in our body also undergo cycle?

Do you know class the cell has a cycle? No Ma’am.

C. Presentation

Well, if that’s the case class then be with me this

morning as I am going to discuss to you all
about the cell cycle.

Everybody read! The Cell Cycle

D. Activity

Before we start discussing our lesson, let’s

have first an activity. I am going to divide
you into 5 groups.

I am going to give you an envelope and

inside the envelope is a picture and all you
have to do is to label the picture with its
corresponding phase and events happened in
that certain phase.

After labeling the picture, post your answer

on the board. Each group must have 1
representative to report your work in front. I
am going to give you 3 mins. to do the
activity. Am I clear class?
Yes Ma’am!
E. Analysis
(Posting their work in front)
Time is up! Post your work now in front.
Group 1 presentation.
We will check your work later on class after Group 2 presentation.
our discussion. Group 3 presentation.

F. Abstraction Yes Maam!

Have you ever watched a caterpillar turn
into a butterfly?
If so, you’re probably familiar with the idea
of a life cycle. Butterflies go through some
fairly spectacular life cycle transitions—
turning from something that looks like a
lowly worm into a glorious creature that
floats on the breeze. Other organisms, from
humans to plants to bacteria, also have a life
cycle: a series of developmental steps that
an individual goes through from the time it
is born until the time it reproduces.

The cell cycle can be thought of as the life

cycle of a cell. In other words, it is the series
of growth and development steps a cell
undergoes between its “birth”—formation
by the division of a mother cell—and
reproduction—division to make two new
daughter cells.

The interphase refers to the period that

follows one cell division and precedes
another. During this stage, the cell does not
divide; it merely grows. The chromosomes
doubles or replicates itself because the DNA
molecule contained in the chromosome
produces an exact copy of itself.
Interphase class are divided into three
substages namely G1 Phase, S Phase and G2
Phase.

What do you think happen in G1 phase Student: The cell grows Maam!
class?

You have an idea!

The stage from the formation of a new cell
until it begins to replicate its DNA is called
the G1 Phase or what we call the first gap
phase, during which time the cells grow
initially. This stage class is characterized by
protein and and RNA synthesis. RNA which
is synthesized by based on the DNA, is then
used to synthesize proteins. Am I Yes Maam!
understood class?

The middle stage of interphase class is

called the S Phase or the synthesis stage. S
phase class is the period of DNA synthesis
or replication. The chromosomes are
duplicated in preparation for the next cell
division. The second gap period or G2
Phase class falls between the S period and
the next cell division or M phase. G2
represents a period of rapid cell growth to
prepare for cell division.

During interphase class, the nucleus is

clearly visible as a distinct membrane –
bound organelle. In stained cells, this
membrane can be clearly seen under the
light microscope. One or more nuclei are
visible inside the nucleus. On the other
hand, the chromosomes cannot be seen
clearly because they appear as an irregular
mass that is grainy in appearance because
the DNA they contain are stretched out
thinly in the nucleus. This facilitates the
replication of DNA during the S phase.

Now class, let us check your work. Back to

the activity we had awhile ago, is the group
1 correct class?
How about the group 2?
(declaring of winners)
*Values Integration

Cell cycle class is like you. When you were

young, you need to enroll in a kindergarten
first before you can enter grade 1. You
cannot go to high level not without entering
kindergarten just like the cell cycle class, it
cannot go to the other phase not unless it None Ma’am.
passed through the other phases.

So, do you have any questions or any

clarifications regarding our lesson this
afternoon?

F. APPLICATION
Since you don’t have any questions then
let us have an activity. I will be grouping
you into 4 groups. All you have to do is to
illustrate the cell cycle by drawing it. I will
be giving you 3 minutes to do the activity.
After that, choose 1 representative each
group to discuss your work here in front.
Am I clear class?

Time is up! Everybody return to your seats.

Now, may I call in the representative of
each group to report their work.

(Declaring the winner)
