Project Title: Study Using Glass Powder as Replacement of Cement and Fine

Aggregate on Concrete

Abstract:

Nowadays, glass wastage increasing with increasing of human. That waste comes from many
sources like constructions, factories and glass bottles. As we know storage glass is easy than it
recycling using of glass power even as replacement of cement or fine aggregate or in both of
them it will be useful to save the environment from wastage of glass also it will useful to save it
from co2 consumption of cement which effect on the environment condition.

Actually In this project will divide in three methods and according to studies and experiment
we will decided which part it can be do for this project.

First method will replace cement using glass powder in deferent percentage like 10%,15%20%
the second method is replacing fine aggregate using glass powder using different proportions like
10%, 15%and 20% of glass wastage. The third method it will be replace the cement and fine
aggregate in same concrete using waste glass powder using proportions like 5% cement 5% fine
aggregate 10% cement 10% fine aggregate 15% cement 15%fine aggregate. The concrete will
casting in cubes and test that compressive strength and flexural of that cubes and will compared
with the normal concrete.

Waste glass powder it will mixed with other components of concrete but in deferent percentages
like cement fine aggregate and coarse aggregate and because of the full of silica that glass
powder it will be easy to react with the other components.

From the factories and the constructions will, the glass collected also from the glass bottle that
already used can we get the waste glass and crushed it as the project will going on and examine
the uses of that percentages.

Vasudevan Gunalaan and Kanapathy pillay Seri Ganis [2013] both of them study the slump
test for using waste glass powder and find increasing in workability.
R.Vandhiyan et al[2013] also he study the workability and find decreasing in workability due to
increasing the replacement and that because the surface of glass particles and due to angular
shape.
Khatib J.M. et al [2012] study increasing in replacement lead to increasing in workability.
Jangid Jitendra B. and SaojiA.C. [2012] increasing in replacement percentages lead to
decreasing in workability
Vasudevan Gunalaan and Kanapathy pillay Seri Ganis [2013] they found that the 20% of
replacement of glass powder gives the higher strength after 28 days rather than other percentages
VandhiyanR. et al[2013] examined the compressive strength by waste glass powder and found
that 15% of waste powder gives earlier strength on 7 days and increasing up to 29% of strength
but in 28 days the strength is decreasing to 23% so he found 10% is better percentage for glass
powder.
umarappan N. [2013] found that 10% is the percentage of glass powder that can give higher
strength the normal concrete.
Khatib J.M. et al[2012] the 10% of glass powder replacement of cement give higher strength.
Vandhiyan R. et al [2013] 10% of glass powder gives the higher flexural strength.

Vijayakumar. G et al[2013] found that the flexural strength increasing up to 4% with increasing
of glass powder

Jangid Jitendra B. and Saoji A.C. [2012] increasing in flexural strength up to 35% with
increasing replacement of glass powder.

Objectives

 To reduce the glass waste and co2 consumptions

 To analyses the possibility of using waste glass powder in concrete

 To find the normal percentage of glass powder replacement in cement and sand

 To get higher compressive strength and flexural using waste glass powder

 To compare the normal concrete with the concrete contain waste glass
 To reduce the cost of concrete

Project Outcomes

 Reduce using cement in concrete to reduce consumption of co2 to save environment

 Reduce the wastage of the glass to keep the environment save

 Increasing the properties of concrete

 Reduce the cost of concrete by reducing cement content

Why are you interested in the project?

Glass is one of materials which difficult to decompose with a days also because the increasing of

constructions and humans so that mean increasing of use glass as constructional or glass bottle in

addition the waste glass difficult to recycle so the idea also to reduce the consumptions of co2

that comes from cement so the goal is replacing waste glass powder as replacement of cement

and sand the waste glass can be every were so the project will be helpful to keep the

environment save also to give a chance reducing costs of concrete.

What are the key questions the project attempts to answer?

1- What is the benefits of using glass powder in concrete?

2- When the concrete have higher compressive strength and flexural?

3- How the glass powder improve the properties of concrete?

4- What are advantages od reduce using cement in concrete?

5- Did the concrete work same work of normal concrete?
