Activity (Detail your plan here):
For my HDF 190 learning contract, I applied to become a coordinator for the
Leadership Ambassador program for the Summer of 2019. While applying for this
program I first applied through on online application that included my resume and a
cover letter along with two references from URI faculty members. Within my resume and
cover letter I listed all my strengths and values and relating them as to why I would be a
good fit for the job. After I finished applying online I was given the opportunity to attend
a group interview where I was interviewed by five people that work closely within the
leadership minor and take part in running the summer program. During my interview I
was asked questions of how my personal strengths would make me a good leader for the
program. To answer this I listed my top five strengths of developer, positivity, WOO,
empathy, and harmony along with an explanation of how I use each one in my day to life
and how I would incorporate those into my role as a leadership ambassador. I would use
my strength of developer as I would expand the students mindset by challenging them
with leadership activities and serving them to become better leaders. I would use
positivity to keep everyone positive and in high spirits during the long hot days that we
would be attending institute. I would use Winning Other Over (WOO) to relate and make
friends with the students at leadership. Lastly, I would incorporate empathy and harmony
together, as I would be able to be understanding and able to calmly resolve conflicts in a
peaceful manner. I also talked about and explained how my top five values of fairness,
kindness, leadership, teamwork and appreciation of beauty and excellence would come
into play during institute. Fairness and kindness would come into play together as I
would treat everyone fairly and with kindness without judging people by their
appearance. I would next use leadership during institute as I would be able to effectively
lead my group while also using teamwork as I can also be apart of a group and learn from
others. Lastly I would use appreciation of beauty and excellence as a way to see the best
in all things especially as the days would get long and I would have to try and keep those
around me positive. I am passionate about serving others and I feel I would be a good
candidate to serve incoming freshmen in adjusting URI. While I was not offered a second
interview I plan on applying again next year and look forward to the opportunity on
having the chance to become a leadership ambassador.
