TRIMBLE SURVEY CONTROLLER EMULATOR

==================================

The Survey Controller Emulator is a tool used for training and demonstration
purposes.
It is fully featured, but is limited to a maximum of 50 points and observations
per job.
The software will stop the storage of observations when you reach the 50 point
limit.
You can still use jobs with more than 50 points, however, you will not be able
to add
any further survey data.

OPERATING THE EMULATOR

----------------------

The emulator can be used with a mouse to activate buttons and fields, or used
with the
keyboard:

F1 to F4 = Activates softkey buttons

CTRL+TAB = Switches through open windows
ALT+<KEY> = Activates the appropriate hotkey'ed menu items or buttons

SKINS
-----

Two default skins are included with the emulator; TSC2 and TCU. These can be
activated
through the batch files found in your Trimble Survey controller folder:

TSC2.BAT and TCU.BAT

New skins can also be configured:

Everything, apart from the SC screen contents and size, is user

configurable. The image
bitmap may have keys drawn on it. The user may click on these keys and have
them function
correctly. To display SC with a bitmap, run Survey Controller with the
command line:

survey.exe skin=<bitmapname>.BMP

<bitmapname> is the filename of a BMP file, expected to be in the same

directory as
survey.exe. The window automatically sizes to the bitmap:

eg. survey skin=tcu.bmp

To get the virtual keys on an image to work, right-click a place on the

image (ie. center
of a 'key'), select "Record Keystroke" and then press the key to be mapped.
The key may
be almost any key, either alone or in combination with ALT, SHIFT, or CtRL.
Any previous
key mapped to the same hot area is replaced.

The hot area for a key is a circle of 15-pixel radius about the clicked
point, as
shown by the cursor shape.

Three special keys may also be used following a right-click/Record

KeyStroke:

The DELETE key: Deletes any key associated with the position in the
image.

The END key: Stores a sequence to close the application (eg. for use
on a power button).

The INSERT key: Defines the position at which the top left corner of the
Survey
Controller screen is to be drawn. After storing an
INSERT key, close and
restart SURVEY.EXE to reposition the SC window.

The current key configuration is stored in file <bitmapname>.PNG, also found

in the
same directory as SURVEY.EXE. To clear all key mappings delete this file.

SCREEN MODES
------------

The emulator can be run in different screen modes to aid projector

demonstrations. The
supported modes are:

320x240: Ctrl-F
640x480: Ctrl-H

Modes can be toggled using each key sequence.

NOTE - These modes are not supported by all computers. Unfortunately this is a
limitation of the computer that we can not resolve.

INSTRUMENTS AND COM PORTS

-------------------------

This version will connect to any supported GPS or Conventional instrument via
the com
port on the PC. To connect to a Trimble S Series instrument see the instructions
below.
If no instrument is available, a 'Manual' instrument may be set up by creating a
new
conventional style and setting the instrument type to Conventional and the
Manufacturer
to Manual. When Trimble Survey COntroller requests a measurement, the three
readings
can be entered on a form manually.

The emulator can be configured to connect to instruments on any PC COM port

numbered from 1 to 9. You can configure these ports via the command line:
eg. survey.exe ports=1,2,4

The three different fields relate to different connection sequences used in

Trimble Survey
Controller:

The first field configures the port that is used for automatic connections
and manual connections.
The second field configures the port to be used for automatic connections
only.
And the third field configures the port to be used for Bluetooth
connections.

An Automatic connection is where Trimble Survey Controller automatically detects

the device
and connects to it - for example a Trimble GPS receiver.
A Manual connection is where you select the Survey Style and a specific
connection process is
started - for example connecting to a Leica conventional instrument.

If you do not configure the ports using the command line, Trimble Survey
Controller uses the
default configuration "ports=1,2,4". This means it attempts to auto-connect and
manual connect
on port 1, auto-connect on port 2, and connect using Bluetooth on port 4. It
attempts all three
connections simultaneously. Where more than one connection is possible, the
first to connect
successfully wins.

To disable a port, configure the port number to 0. For example, disabling serial
connections
and only allowing a Bluetooth connection using COM4 would require the following
parameters:

eg. survey.exe ports=0,0,4

INSTALLING DRIVERS REQUIRED TO CONNECT TO A TRIMBLE S SERIES INSTRUMENT

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------

The drivers required to connect your instrument are automatically installed.

NOTE - The Trimble S Series communication plug-in that was supplied with the
Trimble
Survey Controller emulator software works with the Trimble S Series
total station
firmware version released at the same time as the Trimble Survey
Controller software.
For further details on the compatible firmware version see the
Trimble Survey
Controller Release Notes.
If you upgrade the total station firmware, you must upgrade to the
matching
communication plug-in.
Start the Trimble Survey Controller software. Switch on the instrument and then
connect it to the
computer using the USB-to-hirose cable. Within three or four seconds,
"Connecting to total station"
appears in the controller status line and then the Electronic level form
appears. You can now
operate the instrument as if you are running the Trimble Survey COntroller
software on the
Trimble controller.
