Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Describe how you could address Universal Design for Learning principles
to extend and support the learning experiences for all students.
Engagement: Students will have the opportunity to work individually to complete their video. They will be
able to work during class in a quiet environment. This project will be a learning stretch because students will
have to think critically about the event (Olympics) being asked about to create their video.

Representation: Each component of the video relates to event that occurred during the 1996 Atlanta
Olympics. Students who create a high-quality video will be recognized and their video will be shown to the
class.

Action and Expression: Students will talk about what they learned during this lesson with peers.

Lesson idea implementation: Students will create a video highlighting the events of the 1996 Summer
Olympics held in Atlanta, Georgia. The students will be divided into 5 groups of 4 and each group will have a
topic to focus on. The topics include the Opening Ceremony/Lighting of the Cauldron/Muhammed Ali, the
Olympic Park Bombing, the sports played, memorable athletes, and the economic/population growth impact
on the State of Georgia and the City of Atlanta. Their video must include at least 5 pictures and voiceover to
describe the topic they were assigned. This project will be introduced by showing students this video
highlighting the major events during the Olympics. Students will be assessed based on the quality of their
video and their participation in the group. Each student should have a distinct role in creating the video. This
project will help students learn about an important event in the history of Georgia and the huge impact and
lasting legacy that it made.

Importance of technology: If students did not have access to the use of technology like iMovie, they would
not be able to create a live and interactive presentation. The use of iMovie allows students to create a moving
stream of pictures and add audio. This dynamic project could not be completed without the use of
multimedia. Students should gain knowledge of the economic and population growth impact that the
Olympics had on Atlanta.

The YouTube video was my inspiration for creating a movie about the Olympics. I have always been fascinated
in historical events. The Olympics website provided key details and information about the major events and
highlights.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: I will consult with administrators before assigning a project that involves
student creating online projects like videos. I think it is a good practice to always ask for parental permission
so that parents know what their child will be working on in class. I will also remind students of internet safety
and appropriate use. I will give them a list of approved resources where they find free music and pictures that
fall under the copyright laws.

Reflective Practice: I think this assignment will help students reflect on an important historical event. I hope
my students will take the time to understand the impact the Olympics had on the State of Georgia.
