Professional Dispositions Statement

I believe and understand that all students come from different backgrounds and learn in
different ways. As a teacher it will be my job to know and understand this information and be
able to accommodate them based on that information. In the classroom, teachers should have
high expectations from their students so that way, the students are aware of what is expected of
them.
This assessment supports my professional dispositions greatly because, I think that
teachers should care deeply about their student’s success as well as their well being at home.
There will always be things that I should work on but things that I thrive in would be, honoring
my commitments and responsibilities. I will always honor my word and do my best not matter
what. I will always do my best to reach all my students in the classroom, and there will come a

time where I might feel put down and discouraged but, I will always try my best to make sure my
students are getting the most out of a lesson.
I still have things to grow on but, I have grown so much in the past three and half years to
be how I am today. Working with children in the classroom while observing as well as teaching
has taught me to go slow and give the students time to think. For example, during a lesson, I
gave students the chance to write their own sentence based on their comprehension of a story we
read. After a few minutes I pulled sticks to have students read and some got very nervous about
reading theirs or had not finished or started yet. I did not want them to feel nervous, so I gave
them a few seconds and then let them know I would come back to them. I had to remember that
not all students work at the same pace and sometimes, I do forget that, but making sure they do
not feel embarrassed or discouraged is important. It can still be hard to remember to do that but
keeping that in mind will give the students more opportunities to do their best.
The categories that I think I can improve on is being patient, listening, and
communication with respect of other’s feelings, and ideas. I believe I already try my best with
these actions but, I feel that I can always do better. I never want a student or colleague to feel
that I am impatient while they are speaking to me. I want to be the teacher that the students feel
comfortable talking to me about any problems or advice whenever. I think to do that, I will have
an open-door policy to where students feel they can talk to me and not be judged or embarrassed
about how they are doing in school or what is going on at home. This would be available to my
fellow teachers as well, because collaboration is such a huge part in teachers being successful.
Making sure all my students are feeling comfortable and my co-workers feel they have my
support will be something I will always try my best to do.
