Dear Hiring Manager:

I am currently a fourth semester nursing student at the University of Arizona College of Nursing. I
will be graduating in May of 2019 with my Bachelor of Science in Nursing. I am aware of a position
opening within your organization, and am interested in applying for this position. I am from
Anchorage, Alaska and have gained many skills from being raised there. I have learned the
importance of growing up in a community that strives at taking care of one another due to the tight-
knit nature of the small town in the intense climate. I excel at making my patients feel safe and
comfortable during some of their most private and distressing times, and aim at advocating for my
patients through all of my nursing practice. I precepted in the intensive care unit (ICU) for five weeks
this spring as well. By working in the ICU for the past 5 weeks, I have developed a skill set that will
allow me to serve patients with basic healthcare needs in addition to those with higher acuity needs. I
am compassionate and patient, and eager to learn.

I believe that I will benefit your organization with my adaptability and quick learning abilities. I will
be pursuing further education in the fall of 2019 through the University of Arizona to earn my degree
of Doctor of Nursing Practice-Family Nurse Practitioner. This further education will give me more
credentials that will eventually expand my scope of practice and patient assessment skills. I would be
able to use these credentials within your organization and benefit your healthcare team as well as
your patients.

I have a passion for volunteering and traveling which is why I have been on multiple healthcare
volunteer projects both in the United States and internationally. These experiences, along with over
1,000 clinical hours throughout nursing school, have given me a skillset from working with patients
in rural settings with minimal resources, to precepting in the ICU with current medicine and
practices. I am also an honors student and have completed my honors thesis on “Best Practice
Recommendations for Prescription Opioid Education.” This thesis entails the most recent evidence-
based practice guidelines for educating healthcare providers on prescription opioid use. I plan on
using these best practices within my clinical setting to aid in combatting the opioid crisis. I will
implement integrative therapy within my patient care and strive to practice holistically with a mind,
body, and spirit approach.

Based on my passion for integrative therapies, patient advocacy, and eagerness to learn, I believe that
I would be an asset on your healthcare team. Thank you for considering me for this position.

Sincerely,

Olivia A. Mills
