For: New employees living in the UK.

Introduction

Why Do I Need a Non-Immigrant Visa – Type B Visa?

Obtaining a Non-Immigrant Visa – Type B Visa is the first step to being issued with a work permit and
Extended Annual Multiple Entry Visa.

Why Do I Need a Non-Immigrant Visa – Type B Visa before I arrive in Thailand?

If you arrive in Thailand without this visa, then you will enter on a Tourist Visa and the process of
converting a Tourist Visa to a Non-Immigrant Visa – Type B Visa in Thailand is complex, requires you to
exit the country, disrupts the teaching and learning and avoids you having to carry the cost of additional,
unnecessary costs.

What is the process for obtaining a work permit, teacher license and Extended Annual Multiple
Entry Visa once I am in Thailand?

The following steps have to be taken to obtain a work permit and annual, multiple entry visa once you
have arrived in Thailand with a Non-Immigrant Visa – Type B.

1. Medical check.

2. Police check.

3. Submission of applications to the Ministry of Labour and Ministry of Education to obtain your
work permit and teacher license.

4. Submission of application to the Immigration Office to obtain the annual multiple entry visa.

How long will this take? (approximate)

Steps 1 and 2 – 2 weeks

Step 3 – 2 weeks

Step 4 – 1 week

Our aim is to ensure that you have your teacher license, work permit and Extended Annual Multiple
Entry Visa by the first half term of your first term of your employment. However, please note, the above

timelines can only be achieved if you arrive with a Non-Immigrant Visa – Type B and are subject to the
processes of the Ministry of Labour and Education as well as the Immigration Office.

Are there any restrictions on me or my spouse or children whilst this process is being carried out?

Whilst you will be able to travel freely around Thailand with your passport, you will not be able to leave
Thailand during this time unless you obtain a re-entry permit. Please inform the School’s HR and Visa
Assistant if you intend to leave the country at least one week beforehand.

What documents will I need to apply for a Non-Immigrant Visa Type B (Teachers/overseas
employees only)?

1. Passport: Copy of photo page and all pages with visa entry and exit stamps.
2. Degree: Copy of your Degree Certificate (s) and Degree Transcript (s)
3. Certificates: Copy of all other certificate e.g. QTS, Masters, PGCE, TESOL, TOEIC, IELTS or
other relevant certificates.
4. Invitation Letter from DBS, addressed to the Royal Thai Embassy, London UK stating that DBS
is going to employ you and for how long. (In Thai and English)
5. The School Registration letter. (In Thai)
6. Letter confirming the School ownership. (In Thai with photo of Owner)
7. ID Card and Registration document of owner. (In Thai)
8. An International Child Protection Certificate (ICPC) police criminal clearance certificate with
validity not less than 6 months obtained on-line via the ACRO website
https://www.acro.police.uk/icpc/ This takes at least 10 working days to arrive. Please do not
apply for this any earlier than 6 months before you arrive and no later than 3 months before you
arrive wherever possible.
9. In addition to the documents, you will be required to submit two recent photograph size 4 x 6cms.

We recommend that ladies where a blouse with a collar and men a shirt with a collar for the
photograph.

What are the costs for a Non-Immigrant Visa Type B (Teachers/overseas employees only)?

1. There are two service options available for your ACRO Police Certificate:

● Standard service - £45.00 (10 working days, not including dates of receipt or dispatch)
● Premium service - £80.00 (2 working days, not including dates of receipt or dispatch)

2. The cost of Non-Immigrant Visa Type B is £50.00.

3. Local copy costs for your passport and certificates.

Thai Embassy in the UK**

Is there anything else that I should know or do now?

Yes. Please check that your passport has at least 6-month validity and preferably one year and has plenty
of blank pages Lots of countries in SE Asia and beyond, still stamp your passport on entry to the country.

**Your Non-Immigrant Visa Type B will not be issued with less than 6-month validity**

Be ready to submit your application for your Non-Immigrant Visa Type B 3 months before your arrival in
Thailand. ** Do not apply for the visa more than 3 months before your date of travel **

What help is the School able to provide me to support me in this process?

DBS has a dedicated and experienced Visa Officer who works in our HR Department. Her name is Prang,
Preeyanee Prasopnate, who will support you throughout this process. She can be contacted via the

It’s important for you to check in advance of taking any action in this process if you are uncertain. The
school will issue dates and reminders as appropriate.

Part B

To apply for a Non-Immigrant Visa Type B (Teachers/overseas employees only):

Step 1: Required Documents for Step 1


Scan Documents 1, 2, 3 and 4. E mail them to 1. Passport: Copy of photo page and all

Part C

Upon Arrival in Thailand

1. You will need to complete an Arrival/Departure Card that is issued to you during your flight
before going through immigration, ensuring that you use the school address:

2. Upon arrival in Bangkok, please follow the signs to Immigration. Present the immigration officer
with your passport and Arrival/Departure Card and ensure that you show them the page with the
Non-B visa stamp.
3. Once you have collected your baggage, please follow the exit signs. You will be welcomed by
senior staff from the school and transported to your accommodation.

Part D

Teacher License, Work Permit and Extended Annual Multiple Entry Visa.

The process for completing your Teacher Permit, Work Permit and Extended Annual Multiple Entry Visa
will start very soon after you have arrived. This can take as long as 6 weeks, but please assured that we will
do everything we can to make this a smooth process and complete it as soon as possible.

**Please ensure that you bring**:

● Originals and copies of all documents used throughout this process.


● At least 6 recent passport sized photos, 4x6cm.
● Your police clearance certificate.

The costs for Part D are borne by the School providing you arrive in Thailand with a non-Immigrant B
visa stamped in your passport.
