Purpose of “Computer Fundamentals” Laboratory
The goals of the Computer Fundamentals laboratory are: 1 It allows you to perform experiments that demonstrate the theory of computer and Computer Fundamentals that are discussed in course. 2 It introduce you not only to some of the electronic components that make up a computer and how to operate it but also to perform some experiments that help to improve your computer skills. 3 It familiarizes you with proper laboratory procedure, including precise record-keeping, logical troubleshooting, safety, and learning about the capabilities and limitations of your equipment.
Introduction
This document contains the laboratory experiments to accompany the course
“Computer Fundamentals offered at International Relations department. The document contains twelve experiments that will cover basic experiments cover introduction to the laboratory equipment, installations of different software and how to use them.
Each experiment, whenever applicable, contains the following sections:
1. Objectives: where the expected achievements by the end of the experiment are stated. 2. Introduction: where the theory of the subject is reviewed. The introduction is kept brief, assuming the student has covered the material in detail in class, or can refer to his/her textbook for further reading. 3. System Modules: where the main modules to be used in the experiment are described. 4. Lab Work: leading the student on how to run the experiment. The lab work is organized in parts in order to have a clear and integrated structure of the work. 5. Post-Lab Work: extra questions and tasks for the student to carry after the lab, and include in the lab report.
General Laboratory Procedure
Every student should submit a lab report with all the observations noted in the observations block provided with each experiment and get it signed by the instructor before he/she leaves.

LAB 02: Introduction to Command Prompt Objectives: To familiarize with CMD, how it works and how to put commands. What is GUI and CLI.
Introduction: CMD is commonly used to mean “command”. It is also known as command
prompt. Command prompt is used to perform certain entered commands. It is based on CLI (command line interface. CLI is different than that of GUI (graphical user interface). Procedure: Initially, you need to turn on the computer. Move your mouse to the start icon on the left bottom corner. Click on start icon and type CMD in the search bar then press enter to open command prompt. By default, it is directed to the drive where the operating system is installed. There are many commands which can be used to execute certain desired tasks. For instance, a command “regedit” can be typed and pressing enter will open registry editor where specific works can be done. In the same way, certain other commands can be entered and tasks can be performed in CMD. To open a particular drive one needs to enter the command “dir + the desired drive’s name” and then press enter. If one’s intention is to make a new folder in any of the drive, the process for that is to type the command “mkdir+a name to the folder” and then press enter. To close CMD one is guided to enter “CLS” and then hit the enter button. Outcome: This lab task helped me in understanding what is CMD and how it works. What tasks if performs and how commands are entered. Post Lab Work: 1. Try to refresh your own PC’s operating system. 2. Using CMD and entering several commands such as “ipconfig”, “netstat” and “start”.
