The cause of Macbeths Downfall: Macbeth

Shakespeare has written many plays, but Macbeth’s downfall is well known to be one of

the better ones that caused dramatic effect. Macbeth’s downfall started when he visited the weird

sisters with Banquo. He receives information that he will become king. This drives him to

become paranoid and does not trust anybody no more. Macbeth is held for his own downfall

which is seen through being mentally weak and easily influenced.

Macbeth’s downfall starts when he listens to Lady Macbeth and not being prepared for

what she has planned. He is mentally weak by listening to other people and not waiting for when

the moment will come. This quote is saying,” And wakes it now, to look so green and pale at

what it did so freely” (Shakespeare I.VII 38-39). This states that Lady Macbeth is calling

Macbeth a coward for backing out and that he should just listen to what she says, this lead to him

listening to her. That Macbeth should just get over how he feels and follow with the plan.” And

live a coward in thine own esteem, Letting “I dare not“ wait upon “ I would “, like the poor cat I’

th’ adage?” (I.VII 43-45). This shows that Macbeth’s weak mind chooses to listen to what Lady

Macbeth is saying and goes back to wanting to kill the king of Scotland and have the power.

Macbeth and his weak mind will follow him and if anyone as long as there is a reward for him

that does not come with a consequence.

Macbeth is easily influenced by what others say proves that he does not deserve to be the

king of Scotland. By going to the weird sisters and hearing what they have to say and thinking

everything will be in the palm of his hands.” All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Glamis!

All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Cawdor! All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king

hereafter!” (I.III 48-50).This states that he was influenced to become king and will do anything

to make that possible. Banquo’s son is in line to be the king of Scotland and Macbeth is not

agreeing with what will happen in the future.” He chid the sisters when first they put the name of

the king upon me and bade them speak to him. Then, prophet-like, they hailed him father to a

line of kings” (III.I 56-59). That shows that Banquo does not believe in what the weird sisters are

saying. But Macbeth believes everything that they say and will not stop till it has happened. In

the end, Macbeth will try to do anything to achieve what is predicted.

Macbeth’s downfall is his own fault with him being mentally weak and easily influenced.

Macbeth is weak minded and is like a child and will follow a person on what they say no matter

what is said. His downfall was something that was predicted when he and Banquo went to visit

the weird sisters. What he had heard what they had said he believed that nothing bad would

happen and things would be all good. Many readers can learn that these attributes lead down the

wrong road and only cause harm to those that they know.
