Fresh and Salt Water Systems

Linking Water and Landforms – 3D Model

Over the last few classes, we have looked at how fresh water, salt water, and frozen
water shapes and impacts land.

Choose one of the following to model and describe how the water shapes the land.

Glaciers:
 identify evidence of glacial action
 analyze factors affecting the growth and attrition of glaciers and polar icecaps

Watersheds:
 describe the processes of erosion and deposition resulting from water flow, by
identifying dissolved solids and sediment loads, and identify sources and end points
for these materials
 describe stream characteristics
 describe processes leading to the development of continental drainage systems

Ocean Basins:
 describe the processes of erosion and deposition resulting from wave action, by
identifying dissolved solids and sediment loads, and identify sources and end points
for these materials
 describe how waves and tides are generated and how they interact with shorelines
 describe processes leading to the development of ocean basins
 describe the movement of ocean currents and its impact on regional climates

Create a 3 dimension model of your topic which shows and explains how the water shapes
the land and affects the climate. Along with your model, you should include written
descriptions of how the water affects and shapes the landforms and climate.

You may use any materials you like to build your model. Cardboard, paper, plastercine,
and paint will be available to use. If you wish, you may use other materials brought from
home.

You will have 6 classes to complete the assignment.

Assignment will be due: _________________.
