The Downfall of Macbeth

“The Basic tool for the manipulation of reality is the Manipulation of words. If you can

control the meaning of words, you can control the people who must use the words” (Philip K.

Dick). In the story Macbeth, there are three witches and they cause different problems. Then,

Duncan finds out that his generals defeated armies. One of the generals which is Macbeth was

told he will receive the traitor’s title. Macbeth sends a letter to his downfall wife. Lady Macbeth

is very controlling towards Macbeth and is causing him to do things out of his comfort zone.

Macbeth’s downfall is caused by Lady Macbeth’s controlling manipulating ways.

Lady Macbeth is controlling Macbeth and telling him to be a better person. Macbeth

wants to go back to the man that he was before. The author states, “When you durst do it, then

you were a man, and to be more than what you were, you would be so much more the man”

(Shakespeare 1.7.49-51). This shows that Lady Macbeth is saying that Macbeth will not be a

man if he does not do what she says. Lady Macbeth is trying to make Macbeth feel less than

what he is. Shakespeare states, “Was the hope drunk wherein you dressed yourself? Hath in slept

since? And wakes it now, to look so green and pale at what it did so freely? From this time such I

account thy love” (1.7.36-39). This quote is a representative of how Lady Macbeth is talking

down on his lack of courage. In conclusion, Lady Macbeth keeps saying things about Macbeth so

he could do more of what she wants.

Doing whatever it takes to get what you want. Macbeth will not stop until he becomes

king. According to the author, “What thou wouldst highly, that wouldst thou holity, wouldst not

pay false and yet wouldst wrongly win” (Shakespeare 1.5.16-18). This portrays that no one can

win Macbeth’s spot but in order for him to become king he must kill Duncan. Macbeth has a

desire to win and be king. Shakespeare states, “Thou wouldst be great, art not without ambition

but without the illness should attend it” (1.5.15-17). This demonstrates that Macbeth wants to

achieve his goals to reach and has to do what his wife wants him to do. Furthermore, Macbeth

wants to push himself harder and also make his wife Lady Macbeth happy.

Macbeth is being pushed to do things he does not want to do by his controlling wife. The

armies that Macbeth defeated were MacDonald, king of Norway and the Scottish traitor. Lady

Macbeth thinks Macbeth is not brave enough to kill Duncan. Lady Macbeth tell Macbeth

everything that needs to happen in order for him to become king. To not let what anyone says

manipulate you to do what they want.
