Describe the professional activity/s you attended or participated with (be specific about the
Medicine. The colloquium invited various highly renowned clinical researchers to come to
discuss various problems related to the problems in the biology of complex diseases. I attended
four lectures. They were about the introduction to complex disease genetics, pharmacogenetics,
the spectrum of neurogenetic diseases, and the environmental microbiome. The purpose of this
colloquium was to spread knowledge, showcase newest evidence-based practice, and create
awareness on biology findings within complex diseases. My role here was as a student nurse,

Where was this held and what was the program/activity length?
The activity took place in the Keating/Bio5 building. The weekly colloquium lasts all
semester from January to May. They are similar to the medical grand round events at B-UMC.
The lectures lasted for two hours or more depending on the amount of questions after the
conclusion.
This experience meant a lot to me. I feel that it helped me transition into a professional
mindset. It was also nice to experience an interdisciplinary clinical discussion during the
colloquiums. I love to learn new information, and this was a great outlet for me to get some
amazing information without any pressure or tests, while also gaining professional experience.
Would you recommend this specific community/professional experience in the future; why or
Yes, I would recommend this experience in the future for student nurses. I feel felt like a
medical professional when I was in the room engaging in the various activities throughout the
presentations. The clinical researchers that came to Banner-UMC to lecture, truly engaged the
audience and made me feel like the knowledge I learned is going to be useful in my medical
career as a nurse. Also, many other medical students, graduate students, professors, and
