COURSE DESCRIPTOR:

This course will allow students to explore the creative world of 2D

animation. The main goal of the course is to develop the student’s
creative skills while exploring the principles of animation, stop
motion, character design, vector design, cell animation, lip
syncing, walk cycles, compositing and video-rendering. This
stand-alone ICT course is made up of the following 2 half credit
ICT framework courses: 2D Animation (ANHR35S) and 3D Modelling
(MOHR35S). Online Course:

UNITS & ASSESSMENT:

UNIT 1 - OPTICAL ILLUSIONS & THE PRINCIPLES OF ANIMATION - 35%
In the opening sequence of the unit, students will explore the
fundamentals of Animation (Optical Illusion, Persistence of
Vision, and the Principles of Animation). Students will also
develop life drawing techniques. Students will apply their
knowledge in a series of experimental tasks that explore each
of the key concepts. 45 hours

• Hands-on test 10%

UNIT 2 - FRAME-BY-FRAME ANIMATION & STOP-MOTION - 35%

This unit explores the strategies and techniques used to
create stop-motion films using numerous mediums such as clay,
paper, and armatures. Students will apply their critical
thinking skills in deconstructing animated movies and will
produce a series of animated videos. 45 hours

• Hands-on test 10%

SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT - 30%

For the final assessment students will create an animated
short film that applies the theories and concepts explored
throughout the course. The final project (with the exam) is
worth 30% of the student's final grade. 20 hours
