For this practicum I got the chance to work with
Jon Stapleton and students of Harrisonburg High
School in making electronic music using Ableton
Live 9.

iv. Learning Environment
While working with the Students at
Harrisonburg High School I was
responsible for creating an environment
that was open and accepting of all people
and their abilities in being creative. This
caused me as a educator to be open to
their experiences and to open to
discovering what kind of music they want
to create.
v. Instructional Delivery
Part of the requirements for teaching I had
was being able to really know Ableton Live
9. While in the class I needed to be able to
show the students how to use certain
functions of Ableton and help them take
their songs to the next level. I grew as an
educator because I was not familiar with
Ableton when starting out but was able to
grow and challenge my own thinking and
my own knowledge/skills to help the
students.

Just like in Instructional Delivery,
I had to know the material.
Ableton is a digital audio
workstation that is both
complicated and simple at the
same time. One of the primary
requirements for this practicum
was to know as much of Ableton
inside and out as we could figure
out. This caused me to really
grow in going out of my comfort
zone because electronic music is
not something that I am ultra
comfortable with nor did I feel
like I needed it in my learning to
be an educator. After the
practicum I see how important it
was in that I had to step away
from what I knew and step into
the unknown to help the students
succeed.
