SUBJECT : COMPLETION REPORT ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF

ECOTOURISM DEVELOPMENT PROJECT CY 2015 IN MT.
MALINDANG RANGE NATURAL PARK AS OF DECEMBER
16, 2015.

Respectfully submitted to your end is the completion report on the implementation of

ecotourism development project in Mt. Malindang Range Natural Park as of December 16,
2015.

The DENR is embarking the implementation of ecotourism development project within the
park. For CY 2015, the PA Office has a budget of P6.2 M for the said endeavor. These
ecotourism facilities were constructed in strategic location inside the protected area frequently
visited by tourists because of its beauty and unique features. These facilities are the following:

In the construction of 2 units Viewing Deck by the DENR-PA Office of the MMRNP adhered
the process based on RA 9184. The first Viewing Deck is located at the Municipality of
Concepcion, Misamis Occidental which was awarded to Dela Vega Construction based at
Ozamiz City, the sole bidder of the project. The awarding was done last September 25, 2015
held at the DENR-PENRO, Oroquieta City. Same with the Second Unit Viewing Deck located
at brgy. Tuno, in the Municipality of Don Victoriano, Misamis Occidental had two bidders and
was awarded to Genetian Builders based at Pagadian City over that other bidder, the De La
Vega construction.

 1. LOOKOUT TOWER

The Two Units Lookout Tower were constructed in the Municipality of Bonifacio,Misamis
Occidental. The 1st unit two storey lookout tower was put - up at Barangay Kanao-kanao,
Bonifacio, Misamis Occidental and the 2nd tower was constructed at the Barangay
Buenavista,Bonifacio, Misamis Occidental. As noted, two protection and observation towers
are located in the municipality of Bonifacio for reasons that the said municipality had been
identified a hotspot area in timber poaching and very proximate to the Philippine Eagle
nesting site. Likewise, both units overview the panoramic view of MMRNP.

The Kanao – kanao look – out tower is the jumping off site of tourist and mountain climbers
toward the Makatagbaw Falls which is only seven (7) kilometers far thereof.

The two units have become tourist attraction and stop – over area.
2. CONSTRUCTION OF ENTRANCE AND EXIT GATES

 3. IMPROVEMENT OF VISITOR CENTER

This is the Visitor Center constructed at Barangay Lake Duminagat, Don Victoriano, Misamis
Occidental last CY 2014 with funding support from ACB GIZ. However, in 2015 the VC needed further
improvement to be functional. Hence was improved in 2015 thru ecotourism budget. The
improvement included installation of electricity, tilling and painting. The laborers were from local
community with compensation based on prevailing rate consistent with labor code and taken from the
budget of the Improvement Visitor Center.

4. TRAIL DEVELOPMENT

For the trail development project, it was established in the three different locations of the PA. The
locations are at Don Victoriano, towards Lake Duminagat, toward the Makatagbaw falls in Bonifacio
and Conception towards Guiban Falls all in the Province of Misamis Occidental.
 5. MONITORING STATION CUM ECOTOURISM COLLECTION BOOTH

These Monitoring Stations were established in the strategic locations of the park serve as
ecotourism support facilities to function as collection booth and visitor waiting area of the park.
The MS located at Barangay Siloy, Calamba, Misamis Occidental serves the visitor’s stop – over
place that will visit the shortest way mountain in the park known as Mt. Ampiro while the MS at
Poblacion, Conception, Misamis Occidental will cater the visitors to Mt. Balabag in the
Municipality of Conception and to Guiban Falls. Likewise, Mt. Malindang mountain peak is ideal
for hiking and trekking activities.
