Grade/Class: Three Lesson #3

1. Lesson Objectives: Students will be able to write 8th notes plus notes
previously learned in a 2-bar phrase in 4/4.

National Standards and Frameworks: Imagine- generate musical ideas for values and
context, Analyze-structure and context of varied musical works inform the
response
Performing-evaluate and refine personal and ensemble performances either
individually or in a group.

2. Assessment: Teacher observation and written.

3. Required prior knowledge/skills: Basic knowledge of 8th notes and previous


reviews.

4. Review and/or support for new skills needed: Whole notes, half notes, quarter
notes, 4/4, ¾, 2/4 time and the Major Scale, and new 8th notes.

5. Accommodations: Aids may help student focus or a student can work in


collaboration with another student.

6. Materials, Repertoire, Equipment needed: white board, solfege syllables with


hand gestures, magnetized music notes with whole, half, quarters and 8ths, mini
whiteboards, erasers and markers. drums

7. Lesson Sequence:
A. Review solfege ladder and Charlie over the ocean lines and syllables.

B. Using previous knowledge of time signatures and 8th notes as wells as
previous rhythm durations students will compose a 2-bar rhythm
composition in a time signature of their choosing that will include at
least two groups of 8th notes. Then students will voluntarily come up
and perform their composition on a hand drum. 20-25 mins
C. Teacher will observe the written compositions as well as participation.
D. Students will again recite Charlie over the ocean and solfege line.

E. Secondary/alternative plans: If students who could not perform in time
are upset extra time at the beginning of the next class will be given for
them to perform.

8. Agenda: Please gather around the solfege ladder and after the warm up grab a
whiteboard, eraser and marker and sit quietly on the rug!
