“The fundamental cause of obesity and overweight is an energy imbalance between


calories consumed and calories expended.” (Obesity and) Almost two billion people are obese in
the world, so that's near 30% of the population. The United States and Saudi Arabia have the two
highest obesity rates. (French Childhood) Changing your dietary habits and the amount you are
active is one solution to obesity. What makes this difficult to accomplish is all of the processed
foods they people eat, thinking its healthy when it's full of sugar and other fattening products.

The number of obese people throughout France is rapidly increasing. France has low obesity rates
compared to other countries, and was reported to have the lowest in Europe. (Obesity
Information)And in 2030 it will be home to 30 million overweight and obese people. 24% of
females and 23.8% of men are obese. (French Childhood) More fast food restaurants are spreading
throughout France, which is one of the causes of obesity. It leads to diabetes and other diseases so
France is is trying to create new laws to reduce the amount of calories in their food. (Obesity
Information)

Obesity is a major health issue. France is working with the community and their goal is to promote
health, keep the world safe, and serve the vulnerable. It is also taking action and trying to find a
solution to it by “working closely” with the food industry, and trying to reduce calories in food.
(Obesity and) They have also been educating children to eat a healthier diet, and what the cost is if
you don't. (French Childhood)Fast food restaurants are increasing which is going to lead to higher
obesity rates.

The country of France, feels that since the issue of obesity is increasing, it is important to address
the issue because children are becoming obese, and that will lead to health issues later on in life.
This body should understand that due to this problem, obesity can lead to diabetes and other
diseases. And in rare occasions, it can lead to cancer. The government of France has dealt with the
issue of obesity by working with the food industries to decrease the amount of calories in their
food. They are also educating kids to learn about a healthy diet. The country of France works with
the community and their goal is to promote health, keep the world safe, and serve the vulnerable.
