INTRODUCTION
TATA Institute of Social Sciences conducts TISSNET, a national level postgradu-
ate entrance test. The exam is conducted for admissions to Masters in Social
Work and related programs offered by Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS).
This exam will allow candidates to take admissions in 55 Masters programmes
in Social Science across the five campuses of TISS – Mumbai, Hyderabad,
Guwahati, Tuljapur and Chennai (Banyan).TISSNET will be conducted in 39 cities
across the country. The medium of the test will be English.

TISSNET ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai, the
exam conducting body will announce the TISSNET
eligibility criteria for the exam along with the notifica-
tion. TISSNET eligibility criteria state that candidates
with a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a rec-
ognised university are eligible to apply for the exam.
Aspirants must check the eligibility criteria before
applying for TISSNET.
General TISSNET Eligibility Criteria
TISS Mumbai states eligibility criteria for TISSNET for
the exam as follows:
●● Candidates with three year’s Bachelor’s degree or
equivalent in any discipline from a recognised col-
lege/university are eligible to apply.
●● Candidates studying in three and four-year degree
programmes should have passed in all the subjects of
semester 1 to semester 4 and semester 1 to semester
6 respectively at the time of applying for TISSNET.
●● Candidates studying in the final year of their Bach-
elor’s degree programme are also eligible to apply
to all the programmes.

Factors Determining Eligibility to
Apply
●● Candidate’s ‘Pass Class’ in the Bachelor’s Degree
will be taken for determining his/her eligibility.
●● Candidates studying in the final year of their Bach-
elor’s Degree programme, but have not passed in
all the subjects of all the semesters are not eligible
to apply for TISSNET.
●● Candidates who have failed in the final year exami-
nation cannot apply for TISSNET unless they pass
their Bachelor’s Degree examination on the day of
applying for any of the programmes.
●● Providing incorrect or misleading information in the
application form will lead to the cancellation of admission
if detected at any stage of the selection procedure that
includes the test, interview, selection, and admission.
●● The offer of provisional admission stands automati-
cally cancelled for a candidate if he/she is provision-
ally admitted but fails in the final year examination
of his/her Bachelor’s Degree Programme. Even if
he/she re-evaluates at the college/university, he/
she will not be allowed to continue the programme.

TISSNET APPLICATION FORM
The conducting body of the exam, Tata Institute of
Social Sciences, Mumbai accepts the applications
both via online mode and by post. The students who
do not wish to submit the TISSNET application form
online can take the print of the TISSNET form and
send it to TISS, Mumbai by post. Candidates who live
in remote areas or do not have access to the internet
can send their request to TISS, Mumbai along with
the application fee to get the TISSNET application

TISSNET ADMIT CARD
The admit card of TISSNET will be available online.
Candidates who are eligible for TISSNET and have
successfully submitted the application form along
with the required documents and application fee,
will be able to download the TISSNET admit card.
The hall ticket/ admit card of TISSNET can be down-
loaded using the login details (username/password)

In case, a candidate fails to download the TISSNET

TISS, Mumbai has released the TISSNET important dates. The exam will be
conducted on January 6, 2018. As per the important dates of TISSNET, the

TISSNET CUT

Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai will
release TISSNET cutoff along with the result. The
cutoff marks are the minimum marks required to
qualify the exam. Candidates who fulfill TISSNET cut-

TISSNET Final Result –
Overall performance of a candidate decides his/
her selection for admission at TISS. The final result
of TISSNET which is a list of students selected for
admission will be announced on April 27, 2018. And
the commencement of the programme will happen in
June 2018.
For preparing the final merit list of TISSNET, following
parameters will be assigned:
Social Work programmes, all other programmes will
have a written exam. The format of the exam will be
descriptive where there will be a set of questions from
given case study focusing mainly on social, socio-
economic, socio-political issues at the micro as well
as macro level. Besides, for some programmes, the
written exam will include logical analysis & reasoning
with figure etc. and simple mathematics.
What will be done in case of a
TISSNET Result Tie?
In case of a tie in TISSNET results, the following pro-
cedures will be followed:
●● Personal Interview (PI) marks will be compared. The

SELECTION PROCEDURE
Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai
is the conducting body of TISSNET and defines
the selection procedure of TISSNET exam. The
selection procedure goes through different stages.
TISSNET selection procedure consists of National
Entrance Exam, Pre-Interview Test/Group Discussion
and Personal Interview. Candidates need to register
themselves online for the exam. However, all the
candidates applying for the TISSNET exam must fulfill
the eligibility criteria as prescribed by Tata Institute of
Social Sciences. Only the eligible candidates would

Procedure
1. National Entrance Exam (TISSNET)
To enter the selection procedure of TISS, Candidates
need to qualify TISSNET exam. To qualify, candidates
need to obtain at least 35% (for SC/ST) and 45% (for
others) in the exam. Candidates who qualify will be
called for the second round of the selection process.
2. Pre-Interview Test/Group Discussion (PIT-GD)
This is the second stage of the selection procedure.
TISS also checks the analytical ability and communi-
cation skills of the candidates through a pre-interview
test and group discussion.

3. Personal Interview (PI)

In order to know a candidate better before offering admission to his/her, TISS
organises personal interviews. In this round, candidates are generally asked
about their academics, work experience (if any), goals in life, current affairs etc.
To get admission in TISS, candidates need to perform almost equally well at all
the stages. All the three stages of the selection process have different weight-
age. Although TISSNET exam has the maximum weightage, the selection of a
candidate is based on the cumulative performance in TISSNET, PIT/GD and PI.

TISSNET Analysis - Section wise

Based on last year’s TISSNET exam, we now present to you the detailed section-wise analysis of the exam.

Math and Logical Reasoning:

The overall difficulty level of this section was easy. The areas covered in this section included Quantitative
Ability, Logical Reasoning and Data Interpretation. The topics covered were Venn Diagrams, Word Series,
Geometry, Mensuration, Ratio & Proportion, Percentage, among others. Also, there were questions from topics

such as Arithmetic, which was further divided into Ratio, Average, Time, Speed
& Distance, Time & Work, Square Root, HCF & LCM, Percentage, Numbers,
BODMAS and Data Interpretation.

English Proficiency:
This section carried easy questions from Reading Comprehension and English
Proficiency. The topics from English Proficiency were Analogy, Fill in the blanks,
Word substitutes, parajumbles, Idioms, Antonyms-Synonyms etc.

Social Sensitivity section:

The questions from General Awareness were asked from History (India and
World), Current Affairs, Social Awareness etc. Most of the questions were
generic in nature and not from current affairs. Unlike the previous years, the
topics were not predominantly from Social Sciences.
