TH121
In the book of Genesis, it sees creation as free, orderly, and good. God on the other hand
did not need to create everything we see today, so why did he? Even before God created
everything that exists, there was nothing to be altered, no basis of comparison to what comes
after. It is not about external change, therefore not about origins; it is about relation. Relation to
the loving relation of our dependence upon God. God’s only reason for creation was his
unconditional love for us. God was not forced into it, rather he wanted to create something for
us to love and appreciate. However, God’s creation is not something we deserve, it is a gift from
him to us, he freely gave it to us because he wanted too. In the case of it being given freely to us
why is it that our religion tells us what to do? They impose rules that we should always follow
and if we do not follow it we go to hell. My mother who is a lecturer during our saturday
masses in the village told me that our parish church released a memo regarding what to wear
and what not wear during holy mass. It consisted of not wearing flip flops, short shorts, sports
shorts, things that one may not consider “sunday’s best”. What if a less fortunate person who
wants to hear mass enters wearing rugged clothes, will the church stop him from entering? We
cannot impose rules for people and restrict them from practicing their faith in the name of
conservatism. I would like to think that the church will welcome him/her with their arms wide
open.
God created creation out of unconditional love, and with this we have to treat what he
made for us with the same amount of love he gives us. Creation is free, however this does not
mean we can do whatever want with it. We must stop ourselves from polluting bodies of water,
lands, and the air we breathe because this is basically telling God what he created has no
meaning to us and we do not care. This is one of the only ways we may fully experience his
beauty displaced on earth. As humans, we have the responsibility to care and give respect to all
forms of life because it is a gift from God. We must not abuse the only reminder we have of
God’s undying support and love for us.

"Creation is a gift, a marvelous gift God has given us to care for and use for the benefit of all with great respect and gratitude."
- Pope Francis
