The jets were formed through eector-type nozzles in a sheet of perforated plate The effects of structural factors ofthe perforated pate, the numberof nozzles and the nozale arrangement on the product of liquid-phase mass Uuansfercosficient and gas-liquid incetfacial are, the gas holdup, ané the penetration depsh of bubbles ere investigated experimentally The mass transfer mechanism of the bubble dispersed phase was Considered using a coaxial b-zonal model. The specific gas-liquid interfacial area and the volumetric anal liquid phase mass transfer coefficient in this absorber were compared with those of other gas-liquid fenton ‘contacting devices. Empirical equations regarding gas hoklup andthe bubble penetration depth were Panging et tbtaned. The mass cransfer mechanism in the multeplunging jet absorber could be explained by the Specie pliner area Coaxial bi-zonal model The muli-plungingjet absorber was found to enhance performance by increasing Volume iid phase mass raster the numberof nozzles © 2012 Elsevier BY. The plunging jet contactor isa high performance 1g28-liguid contacting device, which has been improved for waste ‘treatment and floatation processes [1-3]. Such contactors are an attractive way to provide intensive mixing and generate a large amount of bubbles. A considerable number of studies have been performed on mass transfer and bubble dispersion characteristics inthe absorber using a single-phase turbulent plunging jet [4] but few attempts have been made to study those in an absorber using. s-liquid two-phase jet. To enhance the performance of the plunging jet absorber, it should be designed for the most effective expenditure ofthe liquid jet energy. Tojo and Miyanami [5] exa ined the optimum impact angle of the jet for a double plungi system ina single-phase multi-plunging jets system. Ide etal [6] developed anew type of plunging jet absorber using 4 liquid jet containing small solute bubbles. The jet was formed ‘through a filter late, an empty cylinder type-perforated plate with NE PP. 6) All experimental data for hcp agreed with the empitical equa- tion within +20% 3.3, Penetration depth of bubbles Fig. 5 shows the relationship between ly and Ey for various, N and nozzle arrangements. ly increased with increasing E;?! for Er <1.0% 10 kW and increased with increasing Ey'!? for 1.0.x 10> KW < Ey.
