Math 1210 Course Reflection

Calculus is simply introduce your mind to the scientific method of analysis. Through

science, practical problems can be identified, explanations generated and logical solutions

selected. Since I started attending Calculus I learned a lot useful materials such as limits,

differentiation, Derivatives which “it studies the behavior and rate on how different quantities

change”, Anti-derivatives and integrals which “is actually the reverse process of differentiation,

concerned with the concept of the Anti-derivative” of one or more variables.

These might apply to the real world for example actually as a part of our lives, even down

to the most basic things as an operation research analyst will use calculus when observing

different processes at a manufacturing corporation. By considering the value of different

variables, they can also help a company improves operating efficiency, increase production, and

raise profits. Calculus is a useful tool in many different ways in our daily life, it is used to create

mathematical models in order to arrive into an optimal solution.

For example Biologists use differential calculus to determine the exact rate of growth in

the bacterial culture within different variables such as temperature and food source. Also in

Physics, integration is very much need. For example, to calculate the Centre of Mass, Centre of

Gravity and Mass Moment of Inertia of a sports utility vehicle. To calculate the velocity and

trajectory of an object, predict the position of planets, and understand electromagnetism.

Credit card Companies use calculus to set the minimum payments due on credit card statements

at the exact time the statement is processed by considering multiple variables such as changing

interest rates and a fluctuating available balance.

Doctors and Lawyers use calculus to help build the discipline necessary for solving

complex problems, such as diagnosing patient or planning a prosecution case. The field of

epidemiology, the study of the spread of infectious disease relies heavily on calculus. It can be

used to determine how far and fast a diseases is spreading, where it may have originated from

and how to best treat it. As you can see, Calculus has a huge role in the real world we deal and

play with it in our daily life, but for uneducated individuals will not know the role it plays in this

real world. For most professions, learning is the key to success.
