College Debt

College the American dream right? Every parents want to see there child get a good

education and have a successful future. Education is very important in today society; you can

make a better future for your self by having a degree right? Well what happened after college,

how much debt do you have to pay off? These are my question I will be further education on.

When thinking about a topic that was important to me I really had to think about it. After

this semester I will be graduating from Sinclair and I need to get a plan into action on how much

my monthly payments are going to be. How much money was I going to have to pay back? Most

importantly how long was it going to take me to pay off? I want to be able to move out of my

parent’s house and live on my own, but knowing I will have payments makes me wonder if I will

be able to afford to do this. When thinking about my future payment I was curious if other

students had the same worried I did. So this brought my question to light, how does college debt

affect future life choices of students?

There is a reason I attended Sinclair Community College and that was because of how

much cheaper it was going to be for me instead of attending a university. I wouldn’t have to pay

for a dorm room or the university price. So how do I feel about college debt? It is very

overwhelming just because you sign up for classes and they give you a price, you can either pay

out of pocket of take out student loans. Being so young I wasn’t able to pay out of pocket I just

put my loan in deferment knowing it would accumulate interest. Well I have been in school for

three years and now I have interest to pay on top of my loans. It brings in to light how quickly

everything adds up. When coming up with this idea I’m not sure how my research will go. When

I think about this topic before doing my research is there are so many factors that play into effect

about a person average college dept. Most students end up attending a university instead of a

community college. It will be interesting to see what I come up with in my research. Do

university student have more debt on the average than a student who attends community college?

I’m not sure but I will find out. I believe that majority of student have an outstanding amount in

college debt regardless where there attended. College is not cheap by any means, and students

don’t realize what they are going to have to pay back when they graduate. This will definitely

affect future choices for them because of their monthly payment. What I do know about this

topic is I myself have college debt to pay back and it will hurt me when I want to buy a house to

move out. I don’t want to live at my parent’s house forever but because I have college dept. it

affect me on getting a house loan. My debt is counted against me because I don’t make enough

money.

There is still a lot I need to know about college debt and how it affects future life choices.

I will start my research by my going to the library and see if there are any scholarly articles on

this topic. I will also be looking on the Internet for articles or books published by known

authors. Some questions I would like to get answered are how much does an average college

student accumulate? And how long does it take to pay off? Most importantly does college debt

affect future life choices of student? I can’t wait to see what I find because not only does this

topic matter to me I am one of the many students curious about my future.
